As the global finance and logistics declines so many containers were in route returning to China and few if any have left in the last two months that there is a container shortage across the planet. Refrigerated containers are scarce driving delivery costs to unseen heights for seafood and meats. Air cargo is reduced across the planet by 75% and 80% of all cargo is delivered by truck in the US. Farmers can grow the food, but there is a bottleneck in getting it delivered.

flood mud
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reports that over 9,000 people (1,664 households) have been affected by severe flooding in parts of Timor-Leste (also known as East Timor).

Flooding occurred after a torrential downpour lasting just a few hours during the afternoon of 13 March 2020. IFRC said the flooding caused rivers to break their banks, inundating homes and streets with flood water and mud.

Almost 200 homes were completely destroyed and media report many more have been damaged. Seven people were injured but there are no reports of fatalities. Vehicles and electricity lines were also damaged. Some reports suggested the newly built Bridge B.J. Habibie in Dili was also destroyed.

A radar image showing a tornado-warned storm moving into Kauai, HI, early on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
The National Weather Service issued two rare tornado warnings for western Hawaii on Tuesday morning, the first tornado warnings for the state in over a decade. The storms resulted in no reports of damage, but the threat for stormy weather and flash flooding will continue across the Hawaiian Islands for the next couple of days.

The first tornado warning went up for the island of Niihau just before 1:30 AM Tuesday local time, followed by a second for Kauai around 6:00 AM local time.

The most serious of the two thunderstorms affected southern Kauai. The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Kauai before the storm came ashore, warning residents that damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH were possible. The storm began to take on some characteristics of a supercell, complete with a hook-like appendage that began rotating as it approached shore. A nearby radar site showed strong low-level rotation that prompted the tornado warning. The rotation quickly dissipated once the storm came ashore near Kaumakani just after 6:00 AM. There have been no reports of damage so far.

Construction workers look at the rubble from a building after an earthquake on March 18, 2020, in Salt Lake City.
A 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Salt Lake City and its suburbs early Wednesday, sending spooked residents fleeing their homes, knocking out power for tens of thousands and closing the city's airport.

The epicenter was just southwest of Salt Lake City, between the city's airport and the Great Salt Lake. The temblor and its aftershocks physically and mentally rattled approximately 2.8 million people who are already hunkered down amid the coronavirus epidemic.

There were no initial reports of injuries, said Utah Emergency Management spokesman Joe Dougherty.

Just as Andalucia was beginning to get used to 30°C temperatures and clear blue skies, winter has returned in full force.

Strong winds and snow have battered areas at higher altitude in Ronda and Madrid.

Pictures circulated today of early morning traffic grinding to a halt on the Ronda to San Pedro section of the A-397 thanks to a thick blanket of snow.

Comment: Late heavy snowfall also hit the Pyrenees mountain range on the border with France:

Arctic sea ice extent highest in recent years

graph
Sea-ice extent is at highest levels in recent years, and temperatures at the Pole have crashed to the lowest levels of the winter.

So much for global warming.

When a zonal pattern traps cold air at the Pole, Alarmists shift their attention further south and write about spring being early in certain places, calling it "unprecedented". However when these winter patterns fall apart they sometimes hurl blobs of very cold air south, and mild winters can end with wild storms, as was the case on March 11-15, 1888.
