US: Shiny Happy Corporate People

Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney got a lot of press for telling a heckler at the Iowa State Fair that "corporations are people." He did not go on to sing that Patti Smith song, People Have the Power.

But corporate "people" certainly do. Their power was on display this week, both in Washington and among the Republicans campaigning for the nomination.

Ordinary People

Here's Romney's quote in context:
"Corporations are people, my friend... of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend."

US halts humanitarian assistance to Gaza Strip

USAID is halting humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip over alleged meddling by the radical Palestinian group Hamas, a US official has said.

"We deeply regret that USAID-funded partner organisations operating in Gaza are forced by Hamas's actions to suspend their assistance work," the official said.

"USAID assistance programmes were put on hold effective August 12," he added.

"Hamas, through a series of measures it has imposed over the past months, has created an environment which jeopardises the ability of non-governmental organisations to provide assistance to Gazas most vulnerable residents," the official said.

He said all US partner organisations would suspend their activities funded by the United States until these are able "to operate without interference or harassment from Hamas."

Flashback Bachmann: America 'cursed' by God 'if we reject Israel'

At a Republican Jewish Coalition event in Los Angeles last week, Rep. Michele Bachmann offered a candid view of her positions on Israel: Support for Israel is handed down by God and if the United States pulls back its support, America will cease to exist.

The Republican Jewish Coalition is the same organization that recently hired former Sen. Norm Coleman. Bachmann's appearance on Feb.1 is part of a whirlwind of national events for Bachmann in February. Next up: she's keynoting the Take Back Washington North Dakota event in Bismarck this Friday night.

Here's a transcript of some of her remarks at the RJC event:

Comment: Michelle Bachmann won the Iowa Straw-Poll just beating Ron Paul into second place.

Sony Hosted Obama Fundraiser, Releasing Bin Laden Movie Before Election

There may be an overtly political reason that moviegoers will be seeing the story of the Osama bin Laden raid just before they vote for president. Sony Pictures, the company distributing next year's film, hosted a fundraiser for Barack Obama on their studio's premises in California last April. So far, Sony is the only major studio to hold a political fundraiser this cycle. According to Deadline Hollywood, Sony will release the bin Laden movie, directed by Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, on October 12, 2012--less than a month before the presidential election.

Comment: A very good example of politcs colluding with hollywood to rewrite history, reinforce propaganda and stage a well-timed 'patriotic' blockbuster to try and re-elect a President.

Public Outraged Over Armed Raid of Food Co-op

Federal and state teams arrest people at gunpoint, destroy food, and seize assets - all because they're afraid of unpasteurized milk and cheese. Please don't let them trample the Constitution this way.

On August 2, there was an armed raid on Rawesome Foods in Venice, California, conducted jointly by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, the FDA, the Department of Agriculture, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You may recall that we reported about a similar FDA raid on the same co-op last year.

Mike Adams, editor of NaturalNews.com, broke the story last week, and we thank him for his excellent and continuing coverage of this issue. He reports that armed teams were deployed with guns drawn, law enforcement ordered all co-op members out of the store, seized all the cash in the register, then handcuffed the co-op's founder, James Stewart, and placed him in an unmarked car without reading him hist rights.

Then authorities seized $70,000 in raw organic food - raw milk, cheese, yogurt, and fresh produce - and poured an estimated 800 gallons of milk down the drain, though there was no evidence that any of the products were contaminated.

'World is Witnessing Financial WWIII' - Max Keiser

A new war using financial derivatives has been waged, which by no means can bear the name of WWIII, financial analyst Max Keiser told RT.

Following the loss of the US's triple-A credit score which sparked sell-offs on global markets, a new war using financial derivatives has been waged, which by no means can bear the name of WWIII, financial analyst Max Keiser told RT.

Investors however remain unconvinced the country's finances are solid enough. Problems in the Eurozone will be up for discussion by the French and German leaders next week.

Max Keiser, financial analyst and host of the Keiser Report on RT, said French banks are now loaded with toxic derivatives that were sold to them by US investment banks.

"The US investment banks and the rating agencies are now attacking these French banks. They know where the bodies are buried, and they are using the weapons they sold them to attack them," he said. "The rating will be downgraded again. This is part of a new era on Wall Street - they go after sovereign debt. Wall Street and rating agencies are working together to destabilize the sovereign debt of these countries," he added.

Robbing Peter to Pay Israel

More than Fifteen million US dollars
given by US taxpayers to Israel
each day for their military use.

Nearly 20 percent of the constituents of Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) live under the poverty line, and nearly 15 percent are unemployed. Jackson's congressional district, covering parts of the south side of Chicago and its southern suburbs, has been hit harder than many others by the crises plaguing the economy. Many of his constituents are looking at even more cutbacks in social services, higher prices for food and fuel, and ever scarcer jobs.

During this August congressional recess, Rep. Jackson, Jr. should be at home, meeting with constituents and proposing to them how he will help them cope with their difficult circumstances. Instead, the politician is proudly gallivanting around Israel, in one of three separate congressional delegations heading there this month on all-expense-paid junkets organized by the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), a so-called charitable affiliate of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most influential of the myriad pro-Israel lobbying outfits.

In total, 81 representatives, nearly one-fifth of the entire House, will participate in these jaunts, which, according to The Washington Post, include "a round-trip flight in business class for lawmakers and their spouses (that alone is worth about $8,000), fine hotels and meals, side trips, and transportation and guides."

Aggression During G20 Rally "Perpetrated by Police," Judge Rules

not guilty
© Torronto StarMichael Puddy, shown outside Old City Hall provincial court in May. He was arrested during the G20 demonstrations in downtown Toronto with a knife in a pouch. Justice Melvyn Green found him not guilty of possession of a prohibited weapon on Thursday.
A Toronto judge has ruled that "adrenalized" police officers acted as aggressors at a peaceful political rally that led to dozens of arrests during last year's G20 summit.

"The only organized or collective physical aggression at that location that evening was perpetrated by police each time they advanced on demonstrators," Justice Melvyn Green ruled on Thursday. He was referring to a demonstration at Queen St. and Spadina Ave. on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Green stated police criminalized political demonstration, which is "vital" to maintain a "viable democracy."

Green's stern words echo widespread criticism of police during the G20, in which more than 1,100 people were detained in the largest mass arrest in Canadian history. A Toronto Star/Angus Reid Public Opinion poll conducted on the one-year anniversary of the G20 found a majority of Torontonians (54 per cent) now believe police response to demonstrations during the summit were unjustified.

"The zealous exercise of police arrest powers in the context of political demonstrations risks distorting the necessary if delicate balance between law enforcement concerns for public safety and order, on the one hand, and individual rights and freedoms, on the other," Green wrote in a 29-page judgment.

Thugs must be made to fear the police, says U.S. 'supercop' hired by Cameron

Bill Bratton

Young thugs and gang members should be made to 'fear' the police and stiff punishments for crimes, according to the Prime Minister's new American crime adviser.

Former New York police chief Bill Bratton, famed for his 'zero tolerance' tactics, said yesterday that UK forces should be more assertive with offenders, advocating a doctrine of 'escalating force'.

Last week David Cameron was reported to have approached Mr Bratton to discuss taking charge of the Metropolitan Police, and he has already enlisted him to help tackle the threat of gangs.

However his comments came as fresh doubts emerged over his chances of landing top job at the Met, which could be hindered by the Prime Minister's own police reforms and clampdown on immigration.
