10-year-old girl dies while saving two toddlers from a runaway car

As sad as this story is, it also might restore your faith in humanity a little.

Ten-year-old Kiera Larsen died Monday while saving the lives of two toddlers from an out-of-control SUV that was barreling down on them.

A 1999 Mercedes parked on a sloping driveway near where the girl and toddlers were playing somehow went into neutral and took off backwards down the slope.

Kiera's stepmom had run inside for just a second to grab a car charger. Kiera risked her life pushing the toddlers out of the way but was hit by the SUV and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

If you experience it every day, you quickly get used to it; you no longer overreact. Figures turn into statistics and then into history. This history has become so familiar that it no longer surprises anyone, hardly affecting most people. But two years have passed since Ukraine's Euromaidan. In retrospect you start to realize how low the country has fallen during this period.

The Ukraine lost 47,000 sq. km. or 7.2% of its territory.

The population officially amounts to 42.7 million people, about 35-36 million without the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics and citizens who emigrated to Russia. Taking into account whose who left for Europe, we get 33-34 million people.

Kiev previously always insisted that foreign mercenaries were merely being used as instructors for Ukrainian forces. However, two days ago it was officially announced that US snipers are to take part in the hostilities in Donbass on the Ukrainian side. At a press conference of the Georgian National Legion, which became a part of the nationalist battalion Kievan Rus, one of these snipers was introduced as already a member, with ten more to follow.

The Ukrainian authorities need mercenaries because their own army is collapsing. DPR intelligence has repeatedly reported of extremely low morale in the regular-army units, demonstrated by their constant drinking, marauding, and fighting of each other. Two days ago in the south of Donbass there was a fire at a local market that partially destroyed the main source of provision for the locals. According to Ukrainian media a probable cause of fire was violation of fire safety rules in using electrical appliances. The town residents, however, informed that the market had been set alight by Ukrainian soldiers after they plundered it while searching mostly for alcohol.

Russia has delivered nearly 60,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to southeastern Ukraine since 2014, Russian Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Voronov has said.

"In the period between August 2014 and now, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, jointly with interested Russian federal and regional executive authorities, charities and other organizations delivered humanitarian aid to the Donetsk and Luhansk republics," Voronov told the Federation Council Committee of public support for people in southeastern Ukraine on Feb. 25.

"In all, to date, we have sent 49 columns of vehicles which delivered over 59,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid," he said.

This included food and medications, in particular, he said.

The final Republican presidential debate before primary voters in 11 states cast their ballots on Super Tuesday dissolved into an unseemly brawl in which candidates competed with each other to be the loudest and sling the most insults at each other.

With an avalanche of putdowns, zingers and crass insults, Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio tag-teamed on Donald Trump to question his conservative values and his character, with Trump returning the favor in the Republican debate held Thursday in Houston, Texas.

When Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died 12 days ago at a West Texas ranch, he was among high-ranking members of an exclusive fraternity for hunters called the International Order of St. Hubertus, an Austrian society that dates back to the 1600s.

After Scalia's death Feb. 13, the names of the 35 other guests at the remote resort, along with details about Scalia's connection to the hunters, have remained largely unknown. A review of public records shows that some of the men who were with Scalia at the ranch are connected through the International Order of St. Hubertus, whose members gathered at least once before at the same ranch for a celebratory weekend.

Members of the worldwide, male-only society wear dark-green robesemblazoned with a large cross and the motto "Deum Diligite Animalia Diligentes," which means "Honoring God by honoring His creatures," according to the group's website. Some hold titles, such as Grand Master, Prior and Knight Grand Officer. The Order's name is in honor of Hubert, the patron saint of hunters and fishermen.

... The society's U.S. chapter launched in 1966 at the famous Bohemian Club in San Francisco, which is associated with the all-male Bohemian Grove — one of the most well-known secret societies in the country.

Comment: A pity Scalia won't be around to experience the fruits of his labor as things collapse in the U.S. Ah, well, there's probably a special place in the afterlife for him.

GOP family values: Illinois wants to remove financial aid from single mothers and their children

A new bill proposed by Illinois Republicans would strip single mothers and their children of financial aid. The draft law makes no excuse for rape victims who decide not to abort, but excludes in vitro mothers.

Currently in committee, the bill proposed by two GOP members, John Cavaletto and Keith Wheeler, would deny newborns birth certificates if their mothers will not or cannot provide the name of a biological father.

"Absent DNA evidence or a family member's name, a birth certificate will not be issued and the mother will be ineligible for financial aid from the State for support of the child," the bill reads.

The bill would also take away the state's financial support for a child born to a single mother if she fails to provide the name of the biological father or bring DNA test results identifying him within 30 days.

Comment: The Republican party bills itself as the 'pro-life' party, but that's about as far as it goes. Their concern for the well-being of children or the victims of rape is virtually nil. They are much more intent on making sure there are adequate funds to support the Pentagon's exportation of 'freedom and democracy', much to the horror of others around the globe.

A large explosion has hit a waste treatment plant in the Belgian port of Antwerp. Local fire services have described the incident as a "municipal disaster" and asked the locals to keep doors and windows shut.

The blast occurred in a storage bunker at an industrial waste treatment plant belonging to the Indaver company on Friday. Photos from social media networks show dark clouds of smoke curling upwards.

On February 20th, the anti-Russian propaganda site Newsweek headlined "How We Can Defeat Putin" and presented an essay from Evelyn Farkas, of the NATO-generated Atlantic Council, but didn't indicate her being controlled by the same people who control NATO (the US aristocracy). (Newsweek hid her connection to NATO - gave no indication of it.)

NATO is run by the North Atlantic Council, and its main PR agencies are the Atlantic Council and the Atlantic Treaty Association, both of which receive funding from international corporations. The head of the Atlantic Council is billionaire Jon M. Huntsman Jr., the former US Presidential candidate, and a member of the Bilderberg organization, which was founded in 1954 to engineer a takeover of national governments' regulatory abilities and a replacement of national economic regulations by international economic treaties, which will supersede any national authority and will not be answerable to any voters except the controlling stockholders in international corporations. (Bilderberger David Rockefeller then created the Trilateral Commission in 1974, to extend the globally controlling aristocracy to include also Japanese aristocrats, and Huntsman is also a member of that Bilderberg spin-off: he's a member of the Trilateral Commission's ruling Executive Committee.)
