California: Assisted suicide bill passes

assisted suicide rally
Activists are seen rallying in support of physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill at the Capitol in Sacramento, California, Sept. 24, 2015.
California Governor Jerry Brown signed the End of Life Option Act on Monday morning, making California the 5th state to legalize assisted suicide.

While assisted suicide is and has been a fairly common practice around the world, it has remained the subject of much debate in the United States for well over 100 years. It was not until 1994, when Oregon passed the Oregon Death With Dignity Act, that a state officially legalized the practice under certain conditions. Oregon remained alone in its initiative until 2008, when Washington passed its own Death With Dignity Act โ”€ modeled around Oregon's bill from 14 years prior.

Until recently, Vermont and Montana were the only other two states following in these footsteps โ”€ though the ruling in Montana is unique in that it requires court approval.

Once again: Another school shooting to keep Russia and Syria out of mainstream news

northern arizona shooting
There was another school shooting today and it's taking top billing as the top news story of the day on all major networks. All press resources are apparently being directed to North Arizona University where one student is dead and three others are injured after a freshman opened fire on a group of students.

While this is being reported on with all the drama and caliber of a mass shooting like, say, the Oregon shooting, if you actually read the story, you'll find out it isn't the same at all.

Two groups of students got into a fight that escalated to this shooting. One of the groups involved Delta Chi Fraternity members. One guy had a gun. The suspect did not leave the scene and was promptly arrested without further incident according to USA Today. This is nothing like the traditional mass shooting that the media usually pounces on.

In fact, worse shooting altercation stories come out of Chicago on any given weekend.

So why is the media pushing this one as top story in America as if it's another Columbine, Aurora, or Sandy Hook?

Probably to keep what's going on with Russia and Syria out of the headlines.

Comment: There have been far too many mass shootings in the US over the years, and it's getting harder to believe the meme of the lone crazy gunman. In fact, it appears that these tragedies may be staged by a psychopathic government to distract the population from any real news that might provoke an end to their despotic rule.

Another mass shooting just in time to distract US from Putin's truth-telling

A third of so-called vegetarians eat meat when they are under the influence of alcohol, a survey has found.

One in three have also said they eat meat every time they were drunk on a night out with kebab meat and beef burgers being the most common.

Around 39 per cent said they ate kebab meat when they were under the influence, while 34 per cent said they opted for beef burgers.

Twenty-seven per cent of 'vegetarians' said they ate bacon, with 19 per cent devouring fried chicken and 14 per cent eating pork sausages.

It's important for friends of these 'vegetarians' to support them when drunk and urge them not to eat meat

But 69 per cent of vegetarians said they did not tell anyone after they had eaten meat.

The survey was conducted by Voucher Codes Pro, a money saving website, which questioned 1,789 people in the UK who were vegetarians.

Comment: People often become vegetarians for noble reasons, but the truth is far different from what is promulgated by Agri-business and the vegetarian community. Read or listen to the SOTT editor's interview with Lierre Keith, the author of The Vegetarian Myth:

British government is lying about true scale of child poverty - Scottish justice secretary

Image
The British government is "sweeping the issue of child poverty under the carpet," Scottish Justice Secretary Alex Neil has warned. He said the impending cut to tax credits will be "devastating" to working families.

Neil made the remarks as new figures revealed more youngsters in Scotland are living in "material deprivation," meaning they are unable to afford basic items. Neil blamed Conservative policies for the rise, accounting for 14 percent of Scottish children according to the Child Poverty Strategy report for Scotland.

The figure has risen to 140,000 this year, the report notes. This followed an rise of 20,000 to 130,000 in 2013/14. "Over recent years, while relative child poverty has been falling, child low income and material deprivation has been increasing," the report said. "While incomes for families with children have been increasing, this has not been reflected in improvements in living standards for all children."

The report also found the number of children living in relative poverty, before housing costs, is down 19 percent on the previous year. But when housing is factored in, the proportion of children in relative poverty remains at 22 percent. Neil said the results are "unacceptable" and called for further devolution from Westminster so the Scottish government can tackle the problem.

"Although the report shows progress being made in some areas, any child living in poverty is unacceptable," he said. "The UK government is gearing up for devastating cuts to tax credits which will hit thousands of low-income working families next year. "It is also planning changes to the definition of poverty to exclude working poor households. The Scottish government rejects this approach.

Comment: The psychopathic elite have created these conditions and we allowed them to prevail. To free ourselves from their clutches, we have to overcome our greatest obstacle: psychopathy.

Man casually walking along the street with a woman's blood-stained head in one hand and an axe in the other sounds like stuff out of a horror movie... but it's what locals saw in an Indian city on Friday.

Passers-by in the streets of an Indian city were shocked to see a man walking with the chopped-off head of his wife in his hand. In the other hand he was holding the axe he allegedly used to behead his spouse.

Ranking the peasantry: China introduces 'citizen scores'

serfdom sucks
Unless you have a serf score of 700 or higher
The following is extraordinarily creepy and disturbing. It's also extremely clever, from a jackbooted, fascist thug perspective. When massive censorship itself isn't enough...

TechDirt reports:
China's plan to control the hearts, minds and internet connections of its citizens continues unimpeded. That's the great thing about authoritarian regimes: rollout of mandatory programs is usually only a problem of logistics, not opposition.

The Chinese government has mandated a rating system for all of its connected citizens. It looks like a credit rating but goes much deeper than just tying a measurement of financial risk to a number. It's a way of defining who someone in terms of the government's desires and aims. And its desires aren't all that honorable.

Comment: What happens if your score is low? Will you be forced into a camp?

A freshman is dead and three other young men were injured in a shooting at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff. Police say a "confrontation" between two groups of students culminated in multiple gunshots.

The shooter, identified as 18-year-old freshman Steven Jones, is in custody. Students are forbidden from carrying firearms on the NAU campus, according to University police chief Gregory Fowler.

The incident occurred at 1:20 a.m. local time Friday in the parking lot outside the Mountain View Hall dormitory, which houses the university's fraternities and sororities.

The three injured men are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center. They were identified by NAU as Nicholas Prato, Kyle Zientek and Nicholas Piring. The university also identified the student who died as Colin Brough.

Delta Chi fraternity confirmed that some of their members were involved in the incident. "We do not have any information on the victims nor do we know if the deceased individual is a member of the Fraternity," Delta Chi said in a statement. "At this time, we can confirm that this incident had no ties to the chapter."

At a press conference Friday morning, NAU president Dr. Rita Cheng said that everyone was "shocked and deeply saddened" by the shooting, which she described as an "isolated unprecedented incident." As the NAU campus has been declared secure, classes will go on as scheduled, Cheng added.

Northern Arizona University is a four-year public university with some 20,000 students at the Flagstaff campus.

Sixteen year old commits suicide after being verbally attacked by school officials for smelling of marijuana

hayden long
Hayden Long, a 16-year-old high school student killed himself this week after he was "verbally attacked" by police and school officials because he showed up to a school dance smelling like marijuana. Soon after Long's death, his friend Hank Sigel, who was also verbally abused and violated by police and school officials that night, wrote an open letter blaming the suicide on the encounter that they had that night.

According to Sigel's letter, him, Long, and a few other friends were accused of smoking marijuana before the dance and were told that their whole lives would be ruined as a result.

The students all had a lot to lose, all of them being honor students heavily involved in sports. Sigel says that the police and administrators told them they would be charged criminally, fail out of school, lose their driver's licenses, and be suspended from sports. For students who have been trained to believe that their path in school is their entire life, this type of situation could have disastrous results for a child's state of mind.

Gerard Depardieu interview: Americans are 'a people who have constantly destroyed others'

Image

Gerard Depardieu played a Frenchman desperate to do anything to live in America in the 1990 movie "Green Card", but in a new interview, he shows little love for the US.

"The US? They're a people who have constantly destroyed others," the 66-year-old actor railed in a broadcast Thursday by Paris radio station France Inter, taken from an interview he gave the day before to Russian journalists in Moscow.

Comment: As US aggression becomes even more apparent for all the World to see, expect more outspokenness on the part of people with good conscience - especially those with voices that tend to get heard more than others.
