Official report reveals almost 3,000 people claiming to be unaccompanied minors apply for asylum in a year

Nearly two-thirds of 'child' refugees who were questioned about their real age after coming to Britain were found to be adults, an official report has found.

In one year, 65 per cent of asylum seekers assessed after claiming to be juveniles were judged to be over 18.

The report, by immigration watchdog David Bolt, revealed that the Home Office received 2,952 asylum applications from unaccompanied children in the year to June last year.

Out of these there were 705 age disputes - around a quarter of the total - where officials suspected the individual was lying about their age. Of these, 618 cases were resolved and 402 - or 65 per cent - were found to be adults.

China has weapons aplenty to prevail in US trade war

If a trade war is escalated by the US, the Chinese authorities will take all necessary measures to minimize the losses for Chinese companies and individuals. Nonetheless, the US, the world's largest economy with a GDP of approximately $19 trillion, has less endurance for a full-blown trade war.

China does not want a trade war with the US, which is one of its most important trade partners. But if US President Donald Trump starts a trade war, China will fight to the end to defend its interests.

If unfair action is taken by the US, China has various tools to use as countermeasures. Meanwhile, China is expected to be fully prepared for the escalation of trade friction by strengthening its ability to safeguard Chinese entities targeted by the US.

In an all-out trade war, offense and defense are equally important to winning.

The Trump administration said it will impose punitive tariffs on Chinese imports ranging from industrial robots and electric vehicles to locomotives and jet engines. If this measure is carried out, China can provide export-promoting subsidies for companies that export goods on the list.

Ready for war: The mood of Russian experts on prime time TV

Moscow
© Christian Charisius / Global Look PressPeople walking across Red Square in Moscow, Russia, 30 November 2017.
I just spend about 2 hour listening to a TV debate of Russian experts about what to do about the USA. Here are a few interesting interesting points.

1) They all agreed that the AngloZionist (of course, they used the words "USA" or "Western countries") was only going to further escalate and that the only way to stop this is to deliberately bring the world right up to the point were a full-scale US-Russian war was imminent or even locally started. They said that it was fundamentally wrong for Russia to reply with just words against Western actions.

2) Interestingly, there also was a consensus that even a full-scale US attack on Syria would be too late to change the situation on the ground, that it was way too late for that.

3) Another interesting conclusion was that the only really question for Russia is whether Russia would be better off delaying this maximal crisis or accelerating the events and making everything happen sooner. There was no consensus on that.

Comment: If this reflects the mood of the Russians masses, then they have come to accept the inevitability of a military confrontation with the West, because the AngloZionists, as the Saker calls them, will not quit their bullying. While they are overwhelmingly in support of their own government, the US population remains internally divided. How would the moral factor change the outcome of a hot war between Russia and NATO?

London's mayor declares extensive new 'knife control' policies to stop epidemic of stabbings

Sadiq Khan
London Mayor Sadiq Khan
An epidemic of stabbings and acid attacks in London has gotten so bad that London mayor Sadiq Khan is announcing broad new "knife control" policies designed to keep these weapons of war out of the hands of Londoners looking to cause others harm.

The "tough, immediate" measures involve an incredible police crackdown, a ban on home deliveries of knives and acid, and expanding law enforcement stop-and-search powers so that police may stop anyone they believe to be a threat, or planning a knife or acid attack.

Khan announced Friday that the city has created a "violent crime taskforce of 120 officers" tasked with rooting out knife-wielding individuals in public spaces, and is pumping nearly $50 million into the Metropolitan Police department so that they can better arm themselves against knife attacks. He's also empowering the Met Police to introduce "targeted patrols with extra stop and search powers for areas worst-affected," according to a statement.

The mayor took to Twitter to announce his new policies.

Several countries, including the US, has blamed Damascus for staging an alleged chemical attack in Douma despite the fact that a probe into the incident hasn't yet been launched.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Monday that medics of the Syrian Douma had received no patients with signs of chemical poisoning.

"Representatives of the Reconciliation Center interviewed doctors and employees of the hospital in the city of Duma. They denied the reports about allegedly receiving patients with symptoms of chemical poisoning," a press release, issued by the ministry said.

At the same time, employees of the Syrian Red Crescent Society have not recorded any cases of poisoning caused by a chemical attack in the past two days, the organization's spokesperson told Sputnik.

"We, as the Red Crescent organization, have not recorded any cases for the past two days, since our doctors did not work because of the latest events. The statement that was issued on behalf of the Red Crescent is not valid, because we have never made any statements in media. We wrote about this on our official website," the spokesperson said.

Illinois' upcoming $500 mln bond sale gets rated one notch above junk

Chicago, Illinois
Moody's Investors Service on Thursday rated $500 million of bonds Illinois plans to sell this spring one notch above junk, citing the state's big unfunded pension liability and chronic budget deficits.

The credit rating agency assigned the state's current Baa3 rating to the general obligation bonds. Illinois' first bond issue this year will be sold competitively with the proceeds earmarked for capital and information technology projects, according to a state official familiar with the sale. A pricing date was not available.

Israeli sniper films himself shooting of unarmed Palestinian through rifle scope - and cheers

israeli sniper Land Day protest shoot palestinian
Freeze frame of video shot through rifle scope of Israeli sniper shooting unarmed Palestinian on Gaza border and then celebrating.
A video clip in which an Israeli sniper filmed himself shooting an unarmed Palestinian across the Gaza fence and then celebrating drew international outrage last night. The two Palestinian targets in the video appear simply to be walking around near the fence.

In sharing the video, Jewish Voice for Peace says the shooting took place last week:
An IDF soldier filmed himself shooting at unarmed Palestinian protesters on Gaza border this last Friday and then celebrating with his friends saying "Take that sons of bitches." The IDF has responded that it will investigate
The New York Times has also covered it, honestly, saying the video shows "Israeli troops shooting a Palestinian man across the border fence at a time when he posed no obvious threat - and then rejoicing."

Comment: More details from RT:
Yehuda Glick, an MK with the Likud party, said the footage is "very hard to watch," adding that the atmosphere was "troubling and disappointing," Haaretz reported.

However, Likud MK Oren Hazan, who has been suspended from the Knesset over sexual harassment and stalking incidents, had a different view. "What's all the fuss about? It was noted in advance: anyone who approaches the fence, armed or not, is gonna get hit. As it should be!" he tweeted.

What's the fuss about? The message was given in advance: anyone approaching the fence, armed or unabducted. And good thing! Then let the soldiers defend us all--I am personally proud of them! Hope that through the clip the other side will be clearer. and a note to Yonit Levy: do everyone a favor and keep your msoazaim looks where you really need them...
Hazan continued to state that he was proud of the soldiers defending Israel, and that he hopes the footage sends "a clearer message to the other side."

According to IDF protocol, any live fire directed at protests requires approval by the most senior leadership in the field.

Meanwhile, a sniper is permitted to fire towards anyone who approaches the border fence with the intention of penetrating Israeli territory, with the permitted distance being 100 meters (328 feet).

There is a separate fence in front of the border fence, and rules allow for shooting only in the lower body of anyone entering the territory between the two fences.

Protests as part of the 'Great Return March' have been taking place at the border since March 30, and are scheduled to continue until 'Nakba' on May 15 - a day which Israelis celebrate as Independence Day and Palestinians believe is the day of mass exodus from their land as a result of the establishment of the Jewish state.

While the West, and the US in particular, rush to accuse the Syrian government of an alleged chemical attack in the rebel-held town of Douma, the UN has admitted that it is unable to "independently verify the allegations."

"We're not in a position at this point to independently verify the allegations [about the alleged chemical attack in Douma], but, obviously, any allegation of continued use of chemical weapons is extremely, extremely troubling," Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said in a statement on Monday evening.

Violence is flaring in western France for the second day as police attempt to raze an anarchist commune on the site of an abandoned airport. Squatters threw Molotov cocktails at officers, who responded with tear gas.

Law enforcement officials were mobilized for evictions in Notre-Dame-des-Landes commune, 20km from the city of Nantes on Monday. Some 250 activists occupied the 1,650-hectare site, once reserved for a proposed airport, calling it their "Zone a Defendre" (Zone to be Defended). The illegal occupants of the anarchist commune demanded the right to stay after creating a so-called "self-governing utopia."
