US military force projection: Semper Paratus?

damaged US warship
Since the inauguration of US President D. J. Trump in January 2017, along with his contingent of generals, Washington has rattled its nuclear and other military sabers in most every direction, threatening to totally destroy North Korea, ramping up weapons deliveries to Syrian opposition groups, scaling up AFRICOM military actions, sending its naval fleets in every imaginable direction from the South China Sea to the Baltic, building up troops along the borders to Russia, threatening Iran...

Behind all the bluster is a US military with morale at an all-time low, with preparedness in many cases abysmally inadequate, and using technologies that are costly to taxpayers and far behind the state of the art of other potential adversaries. All are symptoms of a failing former sole superpower whose military is being gravely abused and misused, far from the intent for defense of the nation.

West's "Kurdistan" policy - US talks out of both side of its mouth to extend proxy war against Iran

On one hand, the United States is demanding that Iranian-backed militias "leave" Iraq, claiming the fight against the self-titled "Islamic State" (IS) is over. On the other hand, the US and its European partners are still funneling weapons, cash, direct military support and organizing training for Kurdish factions in Iraq's northern region to "beat back" IS.

Additionally, US contractors are attempting to take control of Iraq's western highways connecting the nation to neighboring Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The contractors are to provide both security and rebuild destroyed infrastructure, also citing IS' continued presence as a pretext for America's continued presence in the country.

In other words, the United States is attempting to claim IS is both defeated and also yet to be defeated, attempting to craft a narrative that excludes Iraqi cooperation with Iran, Syria and Russia who are also operating in the region against IS and other militants, and gives the US and its partners exclusive control over Iraq and its future.

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: Spain Split in Catalonia Referendum Aftermath, JFK File Release Flops

Russian revolution 1917 graffiti

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution. Russia may be a vastly different place today, but there's no shortage of chaos in the world. The aftermath of the Catalan Independence Referendum is still reverberating. After Catalonian leaders refused to nullify the region's vote, Madrid took the nuclear option and activated Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution, dissolving the Catalonian parliament and assuming direct control in a move of questionable legality. For their part, Catalan leaders declared independence, calling for peaceful resistance to Madrid's attempts to deny the region's independence.

Over in the U.S., it has been 25 years since the U.S. government promised to release all their relevant JFK assassination files. The deadline came, and went. Trump could have simply allowed for what was promised; instead, he caved in to CIA and FBI pressure to delay the release for "national security reasons". While some documents were released, thousands were withheld pending redactions. Whether existing redactions in the publicly available files will ever be removed or previously withheld documents will ever see the light of day is up in the air. In six months, Trump has the power to delay them again, and so on, ad infinitum. The question is: what value are the documents, anyway?

Catalan police chief resigns, urges colleagues to show loyalty to new Madrid-appointed chief

Josep Lluis Trapero former Catalan police chief
Catalan police chief, Josep Lluis Trapero, has officially resigned after the government in Madrid ordered his dismissal. In a two-page resignation letter, the commander urged his colleagues to show loyalty to the new Madrid-appointed chief of the Mossos d'Esquadra.

The Spanish government invoked Article 155 of its constitution on Friday, suspending the Catalan government and taking over the administration of the region. Dismissing key regional officials and sacking president Carles Puigdemont, Madrid also fired Trapero, the chief of Catalonia's Mossos d'Esquadra, the regional police force.

Crooked Mueller may have leaked court-sealed investigation info to CNN

Robert Mueller
© Associated Press
Robert Mueller continued with his now widely reported corrupt and criminal activities last night by leaking information sealed by the courts to CNN. This is just another corrupt and criminal act in Mueller's corrupt and criminal career.

Last night we found out from information leaked to CNN that the Mueller investigation has filed charges in the ongoing superfluous investigation into President Trump and the far out possibility that he colluded with Russia in the 2016 election. CNN reported that:
A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
In typical bad cop form, former FBI Head and current Special Counsel Mueller proved again that he is as dirty as it gets.

Comment: Gateway Pundit further reports that Evan Perez, a CNN writer with links to Fusion GPS broke the story on Mueller's indictments:
News broke Friday night that Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed the first charges in his investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 election.

The nature of the charges are sealed by order of a federal judge.

The story was leaked to reporters at CNN

Pamela Brown, Evan Perez and Shimon Prokupecz authored the report.

As reported earlier today Evan Perez and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson are colleagues and have authored several "news" reports together.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Fusion GPS, the firm behind the 'Trump Dossier,' called on a judge to block House investigators from accessing its bank records. Is Fusion GPS attempting to hide who paid for the 'Trump Dossier'?

We now know that the Hillary campaign, the DNC and the FBI all funded the Fusion GPS propaganda outfit.
And Fusion GPS is linked closely to CNN.

It looks like CNN's Evan Perez was tipped off by someone on the Special Counsel who leaked information to CNN on Friday.

The corruption in Washington and with the liberal elites is truly out of control.
As the Blaze points out, it's almost certain that the news was leaked from Mueller's team:
A CNN reporter admitted on the network Friday night that in typical cases, the person being indicted and their counsel are quickly informed of the indictment. However, according to the reporter, the person who will have criminal charges filed against them didn't yet know of the grand jury's decision. CNN merely said "sources" informed them of the indictment. The source, then, must have been very close to the Mueller investigation.

Israeli bill to 'ensure Jewish majority' in Jerusalem put on hold to 'coordinate with US'

An Israeli bill that would make several Jewish settlements part of the city of Jerusalem, solidifying a Jewish majority, has been put on pause by the government due to pressure from the US, local media report.

The controversial bill has been in discussion since last year. It would establish a 'Greater Jerusalem' by designating several nearby Jewish settlements as part of a territory administrated by the Jerusalem municipality. It stops short of formally annexing the settlements to Israel the way East Jerusalem itself was annexed in 1980, over a decade after Israel captured it during the 1967 war. The settlements themselves are located in the West Bank, a territory occupied, but not annexed, by Israel.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the US has sent an inquiry into the details of the bill, Haaretz reports.

"We are in touch with the Americans," Netanyahu said. "The Americans turned to us and inquired what the bill was about. As we have been coordinating with them until now, it is worth talking and coordinating with them. We are working to promote and develop the settlement enterprise."

As inflation plunges Russia's Central Bank cuts interest rates

Russia's central bank
Following official confirmation that the annualised rate of inflation in Russia is now 2.7% - far below the Central Bank's 4% target - the Central Bank has bowed to the inevitable and has cut its key interest rate by 25 base points to 8.25%.

Though any interest rate cut in this situation is welcome, it is important to say that the latest cut merely reduces Russia's real interest rates from 5.7% to a still crushing 5.55%. These real interest rates are actually higher than the real interest rates Russia experienced during the inflation spike of 2015.

The Central Bank has justified its decision to cut its key rate by only 25 base points with claims that Russia's current annualised inflation rate is artificially low, and that "inflation expectations remain elevated".

Authorities lock down information flow in Las Vegas shooting

Authorities lock down information flow in Las Vegas shooting
© Erik Verduzco/Las Vegas Review-JournalCounty Sheriff Joe Lombardo discusses the Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting at the Metropolitan Police Department headquarters in Las Vegas, Monday, Oct. 9, 2017.
Fifty-eight people killed. More than 500 injured. And yet, nearly a month after the Las Vegas Strip experienced the worst mass shooting in modern American history, local and federal authorities are refusing to fill in the blanks.

It wasn't always like this. In the days after Oct. 1, when Stephen Paddock opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest festival crowd from his Mandalay Bay corner suite, Las Vegas police were hosting multiple news conferences a day. Then, once a day. Then, once every few days.

They compiled and released snippets of officers' body camera footage. They spent several minutes answering specific questions. They released a comprehensive timeline, which ended up being wrong. They took it back, and tried to clarify the errors, but instead caused more confusion.

Setup? 3 of 5 people at infamous Trump Jr. meeting were tied to Fusion GPS

trump jr meeting
This looks like a setup.

Fusion GPS employees set up Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump campaign to hold a meeting in Trump Tower.

According to Mark Stewart, the General Counsel for the House Committee responding to Fusion GPS, at least three of the people at the meeting with Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower in June 2016 were Fusion GPS officials.
From the court document: At least three of the individuals who attended a meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016 - Soviet counterintelligence officer Rinat Akhmetshin, Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, and Russian-born interperter Anatoloy Samochornov - also have ties to Fusion GPS dating to at least 2015.

We now know that Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democrat Party funded Fusion GPS at least $6 million for "research" during the 2016 election.

It looks more and more like the Donald Trump Jr. meeting at Trump Tower was a hit job by Hillary Clinton, the shady Fusion GPS organization and the Democrats.

Comment: SOTT has been pointing this out since the beginning, when details of the Trump Jr.-Veselnitskaya meeting first emerged. Back in July, we commented:
So Browder says Veselnitskaya hired Fusion GPS (the same company responsible for the dodgy Trump dossier, in cahoots with ex British spook Christopher Steele). Browder himself is accused of ties to British intelligence. And the "ex-counterintelligence officer" lobbyist who also attended the meeting with Trump Jr. is also allegedly tied to Fusion GPS. Were the meeting and the dossier connected? Was it intended to back up the unfounded allegations found in the trumped-up dossier?

Syrian war update: ISIS 'disintegrates' in Deir Ezzor

Syrian army driving terror group out of its last Syrian refuge
Syrian army driving terror group out of its last Syrian refuge.

With the Russian military claiming that ISIS's territorial reach in Syria has shrunk from 70% of Syrian territory in 2015 to less than 5% now, ISIS continues to suffer heavy defeats in Syria's eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian army has apparently succeeded in driving ISIS from more of the areas it controls in Deir Ezzor city and there are reports that ISIS is collapsing there. Note that this is happening without any of the devastation inflicted by the US airforce on Raqqa.

Meanwhile elsewhere in Deir Ezzor province, the Syrian army has recaptured from ISIS the important T2 oil pumping station, one of a complex of three pumping stations (T1 is in Iraq) used to pump oil from Iraq and Syria to ports on Syria's Mediterranean coast.
