Fidel Castro resigns as head of Cuba's Communist Party

Havana - Fidel Castro confirmed his exit from the Communist Party leadership on Tuesday, ceding power to his brother Raul as delegates prepare to vote on changes that could bring term limits to key posts.

The move came after the sixth Communist Party Congress approved a flurry of measures on Monday aimed at keeping Cuba's centrally planned economy from collapse but without any broad embrace of market-oriented change.

"Raul knew that I would not accept a formal role in the party today," Fidel wrote in an article on the Cubadebate.cu portal, referring to his absence from the party's new Central Committee, elected on Monday.

Castro, 84, had served as first secretary in the Central Committee of the party -- which underpins the country's Communist government -- since the party's creation in 1965.

US: Oklahoma passes law to restrict Westboro Baptist protests

© Unknown
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed a bill into law Monday that restricts members of the Westboro Baptist Church from protesting at military funerals.

The new law, introduced by Republican State Senator Josh Brecheen, prohibits protests two hours before or after a funeral. It also restricts protesters from being within 1,000 feet of a funeral, up from 500 feet under a previous law.

"Protesting a funeral for political purposes is an abhorrent and disgusting practice," Fallin said. "While such distasteful protests have been ruled constitutionally protected and cannot be legally prohibited, this legislation will help protect grieving families from people who are looking to exploit their suffering."

Top-secret US lab infiltrated by spear phishers - again

IE 0day leads to theft of data

One of the most sensitive science labs in the US has shut down all internet access after attackers exploited a vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser to steal data from some of its servers, according to published news reports.

The security breach at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is at least the second time since 2007 that computers have been hacked when employees were duped by phishing emails. The most recent compromise was initiated by messages that were manipulated so that they appeared to come from the lab's Human Resource Department, The Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

According to a follow-up post, a link included in the fraudulent email, which first entered the lab's systems on April 7, exploited a critical vulnerability in IE that Microsoft fixed last Tuesday. It was the same bug that fetched a security researcher a $15,000 prize in the recent Pwn2Own hacking contest.

West eyes plan to send ground troops to Libya

EU considers deploying armed force to escort humanitarian aid as airstrikes fail to neutralize Gadhafi's forces

Western nations are inching closer to placing troops on Libyan soil despite threats from Moammar Gadhafi's regime and opposition from France.

The European Union said it was willing to deploy an armed force to escort humanitarian aid, an act Libya's rulers called tantamount to a military operation. Britain said Tuesday it will dispatch senior military officers to advise Libya's opposition forces.

The ground-troop issue arose after Libyan state-run television reported on Tuesday that NATO warplanes launched airstrikes on the capital Tripoli and the city of Sirte. Also Tuesday, a human rights researcher reported renewed attacks by government troops on rebel-held Misrata.

US: Government Interfering with Dolphin Death Research

© Unknown

Most of the press regarding the ongoing Gulf of Mexico oil disaster (the impacts are still unfolding) focuses on blaming British Petroleum, which isn't unreasonable, but it is obscuring the fact the US federal government has played a significant role, and still is.

Recently it was reported that the federal government is suppressing information related to the very unusual spike in Gulf dolphin deaths. Researchers hired as contractors for the federal government objected to the way they were told to keep quiet about their discoveries when they were collecting dead dolphins and studying them for oil contamination.

Trying to block dolphin death information so that it isn't circulated in the press and the public discourse is bad enough, but now the federal government is returning weakened dolphins found stranded to deeper Gulf waters, without allowing them to be studied to discover the cause of all the sudden dolphin deaths. So why push some weakened stranded dolphins back into deeper Gulf waters without studying them first in order to help determine the reasons for their illness and deaths?

Death Warrant: Those who want to bump off the witnesses of the slaughter

A Criminal website incites the killing of volunteers in Gaza. Vittorio Arrigoni is also in their sights. There should be investigation against Lee Kaplan.

The criminal website stoptheism invites people to kill the few volunteers who are providing health treatment in Gaza under Israeli bombs.

They are Americans, Spaniards, Australians, Italians and other volunteers who report us what news they can about the real impact of the Israeli aggression in Gaza. Amongst them there is Vittorio Arrigoni, human rights activist.

What we have here is pure incitement to killing, furnished also with the photos of those "wanted". It's really inconceivable that the site is still online. We demand that the Italian Government and Foreign Office take steps right now to call for it to be immediately closed and to bring those responsible to court.

Was JFK Killed Because of His Interest in Aliens? Secret Memo Shows President Demanded UFO Files 10 Days Before Death

An uncovered letter written by John F Kennedy to the head of the CIA shows that the president demanded to be shown highly confidential documents about UFOs 10 days before his assassination.

The secret memo is one of two letters written by JFK asking for information about the paranormal on November 12 1963, which have been released by the CIA for the first time.

Author William Lester said the CIA released the documents to him under the Freedom of Information Act after he made a request while researching his new book A Celebration of Freedom: JFK and the New Frontier.

Assassination: Was JFK shot to stop him discovering the truth about UFOs?
The president's interest in UFOs shortly before his death is likely to fuel conspiracy theories about his assassination, according to AOL News.

Alien researchers say the latest documents, released to Mr Lester by the CIA, add weight to the suggestion that the president could have been shot to stop him discovering the truth about UFOs.

Comment: This article seems to be pointing to "disclosure fever" that has taken over in recent months. The PTB are desperate to get the public's attention onto anything but Earth changes.

That's not to say that JFK wasn't determined to get to the bottom of the UFO mystery, but the plans for his assassination were obviously well-advanced by the time the events described in this article took place.

For those who are interested in the historical events that led up to the assassination of John F Kennedy, please read the JFK series by Laura Knight-Jadczyk. The most comprehensive treatment of the forces behind the death of JFK - which could include those involved in UFO screcey - is James Douglass' JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why it Matters.

Nigeria: Jonathan Wins Nigerian Vote as Riots Show Political Divisions

People holding wooden and metal sticks demonstrate in Nigeria's northern city of Kano where running battles broke out between protesters and soldiers as President Goodluck Jonathan headed for an election win.
Nigeria's incumbent leader Goodluck Jonathan won the presidential election as violent protests against the result killed at least six, underscoring the political frailty in Africa's biggest oil producer.

Jonathan, 53, a Christian from the oil-rich Niger River delta region, won 22.5 million, or 57 percent, of the votes cast, compared with 12.2 million, or 31 percent, for former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, a northern Muslim, the electoral commission said.

Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with 150 million residents, is roughly split between a mostly Muslim north and a largely Christian south, a divide reflected in voting for the April 16 election. Jonathan will need to convince northerners that he is a credible ruler for all Nigerians while relying on a divided legislature to pass laws to regulate oil exploration and promote investment in the industry.

"The polarized north-south results of the election underline a looming political and cultural divide in the country, which may lead to further tension," Sebastian Boe, a political analyst at IHS Inc. (IHS) in London, said in a e-mailed note.

Opposition supporters in several northern cities burned buildings and attacked members of the ruling People's Democratic Party after results yesterday showed that Jonathan would win the election. A police station and a church in the northern town of Kaduna were burned, and riots spread from Gombe to towns including Bauchi, Zaria, Azare and Potiskum, a police spokesman for the region, Suleiman Lawal, said yesterday.

Syria's State of Emergency Will be Lifted says Bashar al-Assad

Bashar al-Assad, the country's president, says he will lift emergency laws that have been in place for 48 years.

Bashar al-Assad says his country's state of emergency will be lifted by next week. He made the announcement hours after his new cabinet was sworn in.

It came a day after tens of thousands of demonstrators rallied in the capital, Damascus, in one of the biggest turnouts since protests began a month ago.

The lifting of the 48-year-old emergency law has been a key demand of the protesters. The current unrest in Syria has been described as the most serious challenge facing Bashar al-Assad and his regime.

Lifting the emergency laws was the latest in a series of concessions made in a bid to satisfy the public.

US: Must See! Palin, Breitbart Booed at Tea Party Event - The People are Waking Up!

Not everyone at Saturday's tea party gathering in Madison, Wisconsin were fans of Andrew Breitbart and Sarah Palin.

The two popular conservatives had to talk over the boos of about 3,000 pro-labor supporters at the Capitol.

"Shame, shame, shame!" the crowd chanted, according to The Progressive.

"Tax, tax, tax the rich!" was another chant heard there.

"Go to hell!" Breitbart shouted back at the protesters.
