25-year-old Stephen Hewett-Brown, an aspiring musician, was riding an elevator in lower Manhattan, New York around midnight when it malfunctioned.
He managed to save Erudi Sanchez, 43, who lives in the building, by pushing her out of the lift onto one of the building's floors before getting pinned between the elevator car and the shaft as he tried to escape himself, witnesses told the Daily News of New York.
"When I got into the elevator, I felt it dropping and I thought my feet would get caught in the gap but the man pushed me out and said, 'Happy New Year,'" Sanchez told the Daily News on Friday.
Witness Manuel Coronado told that he tried to help Hewett-Brown but couldn't lift him out. "He was saying, 'I can't breathe'. I tried to pull him up, but he said, 'Leave me here, leave me here,'" Coronado told the Daily News.
Sources in the New York Police Department told the Associated Press that the victim was unconscious, suffering from severe body trauma, when officers arrived shortly after midnight.
"The elevators were a problem and needed to be fixed," former Tenants Association President Dashia Imperiale told WABC-TV, saying the lifts sometimes lurch up and down.
© InstagramA police spokesman said he had no information on the exact circumstances of Hewett-Brown’s death, but the department says no criminality is suspected.
"I feel that that alone shows his character," Omenih told WABC-TV.
He said Hewlett-Brown was an aspiring musician who played piano and performed hip-hop and soul.
Brown's mother told the Daily News the family declined to comment.
An Angel Amongst Us/Undercover Hero?
What percentage of Americans (as opposed to 100 years ago) would behave as such? Far less than previously, no doubt.
Watch the Pols come forth to extol the virtues here displayed - yes, they of the self-same charade that finds money to fund wars but NOT maintain infrastructure - (which statistically and logically represent a far far greater danger to Americans than the latest CIA-Made-Terror-Group de jure.). And why are we still letting the evil which 'our' 'intelligence' agencies engage in daily (relying on evil's first and last defense: 'The ends justify the means.')
As I've said before, we poor humans rarely, if ever, achieve the exact ends we sought, as we are not gods. We can barely execute our means as planned. To assume we're so good as to control our ends, when we rarely, if ever, can simply direct our means, is to assume we/society/government have achieved the level of Gods. And we haven't and shall not and that is why that phrase, 'our ends justify our means' will ALWAYS be the catchphrase rationalization of the evil ones among us.

P.s., I'm so cynical of ANYTHING I read these days, that although this article's verisimilitude points in favor of its accuracy, I know not whether it truthfully represents all the events. I recognize I'm taking the publication at its word, which is a riskier proposition than it used to be.
