Spanish snow has arrived in September.

A red hot summer has given way to a milder yet still-warm autumn but as holidaymakers continue to flood the Costas in search of sun and sand, those in the north have seen rain and snow.

The Pyrenees and Cantabrian mountains have proved a peculiar sight as they were dyed white in September, much earlier than normal.

Ski resorts in the highest peaks of the Pyrenees have been covered in blankets of snow.

Snow pack still remains on Ben Nevis in the UK which just received its first snowfall. Snow pack still remains at Squaw Valley with snow predicted next week, these two areas of the planet will see those pockets grow from here. Record cold in Amsterdam & Texas. August snows in Switzerland and Sweden, Greenland 1C from record as well.

The Chocolate Climate Worriers have switched tactics, from claiming that climate is going to kill all the cocoa plants, to claiming we should feel guilty about wanting chocolate in the first place.

LONDON, Sept 14 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Your afternoon chocolate bar may be fueling climate change, destroying protected forests and threatening elephants, chimpanzees and hippos in West Africa, research suggests.

Well-known brands, such as Mars and Nestle, are buying through global traders cocoa that is grown illegally in dwindling national parks and reserves in Ivory Coast and Ghana, environmental group Mighty Earth said.

"Every consumer of chocolate is a part of either the problem or the solution," Etelle Higonnet, campaign director at Mighty Earth, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

"You can choose to buy ethical chocolate. Or you're voting with your dollar for deforestation."

Mars and Nestle told the Thomson Reuters Foundation they are working to tackle deforestation.

"We take a responsible approach to sourcing cocoa and have committed to source 100 percent certified sustainable cocoa by 2020," Mars said in an email.

Ivory Coast, Francophone West Africa's biggest economy, is the world's top cocoa grower.

While the bulk of its 1 million cocoa farmers ply their trade legally, Washington-based Mighty Earth estimates about a third of cocoa is grown illegally in protected areas.

A mega iceberg four times larger than London continues to drift further out into the Antarctic Weddell Sea, with fears its movement could lead to the demise of another major ice shelf.

Satellite images taken from space reveal iceberg A68, which calved away from the Larsen C ice shelf in July, has markedly shifted its position.

The breakaway made A68 the biggest iceberg on record, weighing an astonishing one trillion tonnes.

Highlighting the massive iceberg's "drifting," climate professor Stef Lhermitte posted photos to Twitter from European Space Agency's Sentinel 1 satellite and NASA.

Fall hasn't officially arrived in Jackson Hole yet despite cooler weather this week, but we're excited to report that we received our first snowfall of the season overnight. So one would think Fall is just around the corner. Atop the Tram this morning we were greeted with 2-4 inches of snow and cold blowing winds that resembled more of January than September.

Temperatures have dropped in the valley and certainly in the mountains and it seems Rendezvous Mountain and Big are getting their first true taste of winter this weekend. Forecasts show snowy weather into early next week and it looks to be about to start #jhdreaming!

Snow and icy conditions force the closure of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park Saturday morning. Fall River Road also closed in the park.

There were reports that some vehicles became stuck because of the winter driving conditions. It was closed at Rainbow Curve on the east and at the Alpine Visitor Center on the west.

The temperature at the Alpine Visitor Center was 28 degrees at 8 a.m.

Both roads reopened by midday Saturday.

Trail Ridge Road climbs to an elevation of 12,183 feet above sea level. It's the highest continuous road in the United States.

Skiers and snowboarders are continuing to hit the slopes in Australia's ski resorts with spring providing conditions that have been described as the best in years.

Three big dumps of snow throughout August and early September have lead to the biggest recorded snow depth since 2000.

The snow depth recording at Spencers Creek, midway between Perisher Valley and Thredbo, was 239.7cm this week, just shy of the 262cm recorded in 2000.

This time last year, the snow depth at Spencers Creek was just 114.7cm, less than half of the current depth and well below the average maximum of 190cm in previous years.

First cold front of season delivers snow to mountains in Utah

Many Utah County residents pulled out their sweaters for the first time today, waking up to cooler temperatures and rain showers thanks to the first cold front of the season.

The cold front brought varying levels of precipitation to cities across Utah Valley. Payson received the most with 1.14 inches of rain by 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Other cities including Alpine, Provo and Spanish Fork received more than a half inch of precipitation.

Scattered showers are expected throughout Friday afternoon and evening.

Widespread precipitation is expected across the state as the cold front crosses northern and central Utah, according to the National Weather Service's website.

Early snowstorm strikes high areas of Wyoming

Winter is coming early for some mountain areas of western and central Wyoming.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Friday for the Bighorn, Absaroka and Wind River mountains. Up to a foot of snow is possible in high elevations.

Snow was also expected in parts of Yellowstone National Park, including the Old Faithful area.

On Friday morning, snow forced the Wyoming Department of Transportation to close sections of U.S. 212 near the Montana border, including Beartooth Pass, northwest of Cody.

Cory Bernardi outlines legislation that has just passed banning *old-style* 2-stroke motors from 2019 - meaning lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, weed whackers, and outboard boat motors. In Australia mowers and fishing tinnies are heritage material. It's a new carbon tax by stealth, pretending to be about health.

h/t to Tim Blair who adds a movie of Australians dancing with lawn mowers for the Sydney Olympic opening ceremony (just to give you foreigners some appreciation of how attached Australians are to them).
