High Strangeness
Although many who witnessed this huge "V-shaped craft" have come forward, there are a great deal more who haven't; research concerning this case is ongoing to this day, and it is our hope by highlighting the event(s) and the individuals who witnessed it, more people will come forward and share their experiences. In June or early July 1947, a farmer found strange debris while working on a ranch about 70 miles north of Roswell. He put some of it in a box and drove to the local sheriff. Neither man knew what to make of it, so the sheriff called Roswell Army Air Field, which sent two men to investigate.
The Keighley News received a flurry of reports about bizarre lights after people in the west and south-west of the town spotted the phenomenon on Saturday evening.
Ian Davies, manager of the Osborne Hotel in Torquay, revealed wish lanterns released by a wedding party at the hotel's Brasserie were probably responsible for the great illusion.
But the '100 or so' orange/red/green lights floating over parts of Paignton from the Dartmouth direction over the weekend were nothing to do with him or his staff.
"I've checked - and it wasn't us," said Ian, who said the wedding guests who launched about a dozen wish lanterns at the beginning of the month had not obtained permission from staff to do so.

Lorna Godden took this picture on Saturday night |
The Godden family, of Cradley Road, New Eltham, first saw the orange lights four months ago, shooting across the sky in the direction of west London.
Around 25 of the lights were spotted in the space of half an hour, at around 9pm as Lorna and Mark Godden relaxed in their garden with their children.
On Saturday night (September 15), the lights returned.
Almost 20 villagers, from Gemeni, Mehedinti county, claim the UFO was wearing a shiny blue suit, just like Superman's.
Police officers took written statements from all of the witnesses and say they described the figure in the same way.
Local policeman Ion Anuta said: "We talked to people of different ages who are all reliable citizens in our village.
But a leading researcher said yesterday he is not downhearted and welcomes people and institutions from around the world to join in the search for the elusive creature.
"I cannot tell you where it is. But we are getting to the truth step by step," Wang Fangcheng, who is in charge of research into the Bigfoot-like creature at the Beijing Ecological Engineering Institution, said.
Last week, the institution organized an expedition to Shennongjia, a virgin forest in Hubei Province, to look for the mysterious wild man.
A team of scientists spent two days exploring the western part of the forest and spoke to local people who claim to have seen a large, hairy upright creature in the area.
One Sidney resident always thought he'd wait until the aliens landed before he'd believe in little green men. The man, who routinely pops out to his suburban back yard for an evening cigarette and studies the night sky, was surprised when he saw an unidentified flying object recently. The UFO was a bright orange orb, which he later described as a jellyfish shape. He briefly wrote the unusual sight off as lights on a plane.
He quickly changed his mind.
It was too bright, too orange, and it cruised silently southward over the Sidney sky.
"I would expect a lot of people would have seen it if they looked skyward. It was very conspicuous," he told the Peninsula News Review. "If it was a prank, it was a really good prank."
According to official sources, nearly 300 eucalyptus trees were burnt, following the lightning, which hit the area, and big crater was formed.
The smoke, which was found last evening, continued emanating heavily today and a flame was visible deep below eight feet, the sources said.
The documents dating back to 1947 that were released to the Irish Times newspaper log a range of strange sightings.
Descriptions of UFOs that were reported range from being like fried eggs to a household iron with fins at the back, according to the newspaper.
