Four persons, including two children, have died and several others remained missing while over 2.30 lakh individuals were affected across Sri Lanka due to inclement weather following a massive rain system in southwest Bay of Bengal, authorities said on Wednesday.

At least six Colombo-bound flights were diverted to other airports on Wednesday morning due to heavy rain - 75 mm in 24 hours ending at 8:00 am - and high winds experienced in most parts of the island due to the Deep Depression (heavy rain bearing system) over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

The Deep Depression is likely to move north-northwest wards closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka and intensify further into a cyclonic storm later in the day, the meteorological department said.

Army and navy troops were deployed to rescue victims and provide food and other essentials to those affected.

Comment: Update November 28

Deutsche Welle reports:
At least 12 people have been killed due to flooding and landslides in Sri Lanka, authorities said on Thursday.

Rescue teams said they had recovered the bodies of four children who were swept away by the floodwaters while they were riding on a tractor in the town of Eravur on the east coast.

Others remain missing after torrential rains, flash floods and landslides caused devastation in eastern and central parts of the South Asian country.

The powerful but slow-moving storm, which is now heading toward India, has forced more than 250,000 people in Sri Lanka to flee their homes, according to the island nation's Disaster Management Center.

Greenland surface temperatures fall for 20 years in fresh blow to climate alarm narrative

Greenland
Further evidence that surface temperatures across Greenland have been cooling for around 20 years has emerged with the recent publication of findings from a group of Thai scientists and mathematicians.

Processing 31,464 satellite recording from 2000-2019 over the entire area, they found that the average temperature fell by 0.11°C. This is said to indicate a "non-significant change in LST [land surface temperature]". The latest evidence of actual cooling over a significant area of the Arctic will not be news in scientific circles since it backs up previous findings of recent temperature falls.

But the information is of course kept out of the mainstream since it casts doubt on the key Net Zero scare about soaring sea levels caused by the catastrophic melting of the Greenland ice sheet.

There are some crumbs of comfort for alarmists since the Thai authors found that the ice-free sub-regions of Greenland are warmer than the ice-covered sub regions. But perhaps not - the authors attributed it to "population density". Urban heat yet again corrupting the temperature data, even in Greenland. The illustration below charts the temperature record for all areas of Greenland.

4 rare dolphins found dead on Mississippi barrier island on November 23

The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) reports that four dolphins were found dead on Petit Bois Island Saturday.

IMMS says their staff responded to a 'stranding event' on the island after a group of dolphins was discovered and reported to their Stranding Hotline.

IMMS collected photographs and tissue samples in the field. To their surprise, the dolphins were Pantropical Spotted Dolphins, a species rarely seen in Mississippi waters.

IMMS says these dolphins usually inhabit deeper waters, so it was a surprise to find four together on one of the barrier islands.

Each animal was brought back to IMMS for further analysis. Necropsies— animal autopsies— are being performed, in collaboration with the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, to determine the causes of death.

Four pit bulls seen being led from the home on Parrish Street, where a woman died.
A 51-year-old woman was found dead inside a home in West Philadelphia's Mantua neighborhood Monday afternoon and had visible dog bites on her body, police said.

The woman was found dead at the home in the 4100 block of Parrish Street and pronounced dead at 12:15 p.m., according to police.

It's unclear if she lived at the home, but police say she was at the property frequently.

Many parts of the investigation are in the early stages. Right now, the Philadelphia Police Department is characterizing the incident as a death investigation. It's unclear how the woman died — if it was an attack — or if her death was caused by something else.

Police said four dogs were removed from the home. Sources said the deceased woman had sustained an unknown number of dog bites.

Family members arrived at the home visibly upset at word of her death. Sources said the woman did have what the family believed to be a good relationship with the dogs. Her family declined to speak with CBS News Philadelphia on camera.
