Judge: Release unredacted California priest files

Image
A judge on Monday ordered the release of thousands of pages of personnel files that would identify Roman Catholic priests accused of child molestation and their leaders in the church.

The ruling by Superior Court Judge Emilie Elias contradicts a previous order in 2010 by another judge that allowed the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to redact the names of church higher-ups.

Attorneys for the archdiocese previously said they planned to make the confidential files public by the middle of this month with the names of the church hierarchy blacked out.

It was unclear how long it would take to adhere to the new ruling. Church attorneys expressed concern about combing through 30,000 pages of documents.

Elias continued to meet with attorneys following the hearing.

Delta prevents musician from bringing vintage gibson guitar on board, ends up destroying it

Image

It was a musician's worst nightmare.

At least that's how Dave Schneider, guitarist and singer for Hanukkah-themed rock band The LeeVees, described it when his guitar - a 1965 Gibson ES-335 - got jammed in an elevator by baggage handlers at a Detroit airport.

Schneider was traveling with fellow LeeVees guitarist Adam Gardner from Portland, Maine, to St. Petersburg, Fla., for a gig last month at a conservative temple when their flight was diverted to Rochester, N.Y., due to bad weather, causing them to miss their connection in Philadelphia, Pa. They then drove to Buffalo, N.Y., to hop on a plane destined for Detroit, Mich., where they planned to make a connecting flight to Tampa, Fla.

While boarding in Buffalo, Schneider says he asked Delta staffers not to check in the vintage guitar - which he estimates is worth about $10,000 - and allow him to carry it on the plane and place it in an available space, as he did on the flight from Portland.

"I've always carried it on," Schneider, who also tours as the lead singer of the hockey-themed rock group the Zambonis, told Yahoo News. "Never been a problem before."

Mall cops harass breast-feeding moms for "exposing themselves"

Image
© NBC10Philadelphia.com - Monique BraxtonThree moms are speaking out after they were allegedly harassed by two security guards while they were breastfeeding inside a mall in Delaware.
Diana Hitchens, Autumne Murray and Jessica Hitchens all say their message was clear when they arrived at the Hollister store at the Concord Mall in Delaware Saturday afternoon. The three women were staging a nurse-in to raise awareness about a woman's right to breastfeed in public. The protest from the three mothers was in response to an incident at a Houston, Texas mall in which a Hollister store manager threw out a mother who was breastfeeding inside the store. The mothers carried posters which read, "Hey Hollister, my baby has a right to eat. It's the law," as well as "Normalize breastfeeding in public. Do you eat in public? Why shouldn't our babies?"

"We walked through the store and the employees asked if we needed help with anything," said Diana Hitchens of Elkton, Maryland. "We were actually nursing as we were walking through the store."

But in the midst of their protest, the three mothers say they encountered some problems of their own. Moments after they staged a sit-in, mall security arrived.

"Two security guards walked up to us," said Autumne Murray of Elkton, Maryland. "They started questioning us and asking us why we were exposing ourselves and saying that we needed to leave or cover up. We got in an argument with them about it for a little bit and then they left."

'Bleeding like crazy': Roger Mundell Jr. was scratched on his face and back after being attacked by a rabid bobcat in his own garage
A man in Massachusetts says all he heard was a hiss before a bobcat pounced on him in his own garage, sinking its teeth into his face and its claws in his back.

Roger Mundell Jr. went into the garage in Brookfield on Sunday morning to fetch some tie-down straps for a friend when the animal attacked.

It then ran out of the garage and bit Mundell's 15-year-old nephew on the arms and back.

Mundell and his wife pinned the cat to the ground and shot it dead.

India gang-rape account: 'Police argued amongst themselves instead of calling an ambulance'

The companion of the woman who died after being brutally gang-raped on a New Delhi bus tells TV that police "wasted time" arguing jurisdiction while he pleaded for an ambulance and clothes. Shocking details of the attack come as protests continue.

The man, who has not been named due to the sensitivity of the case, was sitting in a wheelchair, his leg broken, as he revealed for the first time the details of the brutal assault. His 23-year-old friend died over the weekend from multiple-organ failure.

The two of them had just finished watching the movie "Life of Pi" and were unable to find an auto-rickshaw to take them to the bus stop. Instead a private bus stopped to pick them up, the key witness told Indian TV network Zee TV.

Only six people were aboard. The man said it felt like "a trap" as they started harassing and attacking the pair. As the girl and man tried to fight back, the assailants brought out an iron rod.

The woman tried to call the police, but the cell phone was taken away. Then the gang then dragged her to rear seats and raped her.
After two hours or so, the men dumped the victims on road side and tried to run them over with the bus before leaving, the man said.

Five girls aged between 2 and 10 have been raped in two separate incidents in India, four of whom were assaulted by the same attacker. The attacks are only the latest in a string of brutal sexual assault cases that have recently outraged the country.

Both of the incidents took place in the populous eastern Indian state of West Bengal.

A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old male in Minapara village near the city of Raigani on Saturday, India's DNA news cites police as saying.

The baby's father told police the incident occurred when his wife went to wash clothes in a pond on Saturday, leaving the sleeping infant unattended.

The teenage assailant was arrested and is being held on 14-day judicial custody.

Four more girls, aged between five and ten, were reportedly raped by a 40-year old man in the town of Belatore on Thursday.

The girls had reportedly gone to a grocery shop owned by the alleged assailant Rabi Lochan Dey to buy a cake.

Ponerized society: UK's Guardian publishes favourable article on pedophilia - 'Bringing dark desires to light'

Image
The Jimmy Savile scandal caused public revulsion, but experts disagree about what causes paedophilia - and even how much harm it causes

A 1976 the National Council for Civil Liberties, the respectable (and responsible) pressure group now known as Liberty, made a submission to parliament's criminal law revision committee. It caused barely a ripple. "Childhood sexual experiences, willingly engaged in with an adult," it read, "result in no identifiable damage ... The real need is a change in the attitude which assumes that all cases of paedophilia result in lasting damage."

It is difficult today, after the public firestorm unleashed by revelations about Jimmy Savile and the host of child abuse allegations they have triggered, to imagine any mainstream group making anything like such a claim. But if it is shocking to realise how dramatically attitudes to paedophilia have changed in just three decades, it is even more surprising to discover how little agreement there is even now among those who are considered experts on the subject.

A liberal professor of psychology who studied in the late 1970s will see things very differently from someone working in child protection, or with convicted sex offenders. There is, astonishingly, not even a full academic consensus on whether consensual paedophilic relations necessarily cause harm.

Comment: "Adult sexual attraction to children is part of the continuum of human sexuality" ... And yet the article's launchpad is the Savile scandal and all that unearthed (or made public anyway) about 'pedophiles' (ahem, psychopaths) in power in the UK. To begin with a reference to a psychopathic predator like Savile and then launch into a discussion about adult attraction to children misses the point, and gives a false impression of the real problem. A more objective psychological basis for understanding the type of 'pedophilia' apparent in the likes of Jimmy Savile is that it is symptomatic of an overall character disorder that places its carrier within the psychopathic spectrum. These 'pedophiles' are wired differently because they are psychopaths, not because they are pedophiles. Although humans are routinely subject to deviant thought patterns in an increasingly degenerate world, there is nothing human about being a sexual deviant and predator.

It is interesting to read some of the comments below this article on The Guardian. Most readers focused on the 'grey area' issues surrounding sexual relationships between young and older teenagers, apparently completely oblivious to the real hardcore pedocriminality that routinely implicates some very famous names in very senior positions of power in all Western countries and beyond. Whatever about the morality of 'consensual' sex between a 20-year-old and a 15-year-old, at the rotten heart of the problem lies institutionalised pedophilia on a level most could not even imagine.
