North Korea is believed to have conducted a new missile launch, officials from three countries - Japan, South Korea and the US - confirmed on Friday.

A "flying body considered to be a missile" has been launched, Japanese officials said, adding that they are currently collecting information for further analysis.

There is a possibility the missile could have landed in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Japan, in the Sea of Japan, NHK reported citing the country's Defense Ministry.

The possible launch is believed to have been conducted "before midnight" on July 28 local time, the Japanese authorities told NHK, adding that a warning to ships and other vessels in the area has been issued

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is convening an emergency meeting.

The US government imposed sanctions against six Iranian companies after Tehran launched a satellite into orbit, saying they were "central" to the country's ballistic missile program.

Six enterprises listed as subsidiaries of the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group were placed on the US sanctions list Friday, after what Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin described as a "provocative space launch."

"The US government will continue to aggressively counter Iran's ballistic missile-related activity, whether it be a provocative space launch, its development of threatening ballistic missile systems, or likely support to Yemeni Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia such as occurred this past weekend," Mnuchin said, announcing the sanctions.

Shahid Karimi Industries, Shahid Rastegar Industries, Shahid Cheraghi Industries, Shahid Varamini Industries, Shahid Kalhor Industries, and Amir Al Mo'Menin Industries were placed on the sanctions list as subsidiaries of SHIG.

North Korea's growing missile capability is "the single most dangerous threat" to international order today, and time is running out for diplomatic solutions, the US Army chief of staff said, adding that war in the peninsula would be "horrific."

General Mark Milley addressed the Korean crisis during a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Thursday, as part of an hourlong speech about the role of the US military in upholding the post-WWII international order.

The July 4 missile test showed that North Korea "has advanced significantly, and quicker than many had expected, their ICBM capability that could possibly strike the US," Milley said. "Time is running out" for diplomatic and political efforts to persuade Pyongyang, the general said, adding that military is fully supportive of the attempts to avoid war.


Comment: July 4th launch: Russia determined N. Korea had yet to gain ICBM capability.


Returning to the issue during the question-and-answer session, Milley singled out North Korea as the one thing that figuratively keeps him up at night. "It's a very serious situation, and it's not going in a good direction," he said.

Over 100 people were injured as clashes broke out at the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem on Thursday after Palestinians were allowed to freely enter the Temple Mount compound for the first time in weeks.

At least 113 Palestinians were injured, according to the Red Crescent, after Israeli forces used stun grenades to control the thousands of people rushing into the compound.

Palestinians flocked en masse into the revered mosque after the Islamic Waqf authority gave worshipers the go-ahead, lifting the prayer ban that had been imposed in connection with the metal detectors and proclaiming "the new era of victory."

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said in a TV address that "noon prayers will take place at the Al-Aqsa mosque."

"We will sacrifice ourselves for Al-Aqsa!" the worshipers chanted, Reuters reported, with several of them climbing atop the mosque to erect Palestinian flags there, which were later removed by Israeli troops.


Comment: The Israelis provided the Palestinians a tangible and united 'cause' by suppressing their access to the Al-Aqsa mosque. Israel knew precisely what it was doing when it set the detectors, the reaction it would evoke and the victims it would tally.

One more brick in the wall: Congress OKs funding for Mexico barrier

The House of Representatives has voted to spend $1.6 billion on building new and fortifying existing fencing on the US border with Mexico. The expense was tucked into the $788 billion spending bill for the next budget year.

The $1.6 billion is allocated for the construction of three segments of the wall on the US border with Mexico, including $784 million for 32 miles of new border fencing and $498 million for 28 miles of levee wall in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas; another $251 million would go to building back-up fencing in the heavily fortified San Diego area, AP reported.

Lawmakers did not vote on the wall funding separately but rather as part of the large spending bill which included funding for the departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and Energy. The vote was 230-196.

Congressional Democrats were hoping to be able to defeat the wall funding by voting on it as a separate item, considering a number of Republicans represent districts with large immigrant communities, where many oppose such a wall.

Imran Awan, the long-time employee and friend of Debbie Wasserman Schultz - currently under investigation by the FBI and DC Capitol Police for a variety of alleged crimes unrelated to his Monday arrest (and whose lawyer oddly mentioned 'pizzagate' in a post-arrest statement), subscribed to YouTube channel "Seven Super Girls" - which has over 12 billion views, and features children performing in sexualized 'bits.'

Some of the sites Awan is subscribed to also fit the description of #Elsagate, which is a growing number of child-oriented fetish websites disguised as innocent children's videos.

Pentagon: Military transgender plan not official yet, no modifications to existing policy

The Pentagon has not yet received official orders from the White House on implementing a ban on transgender service members, said General Joseph Dunford (USMC), chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and President Donald Trump's chief military adviser.

"There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President's direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance," Dunford wrote in a memo to service chiefs, commanders and senior enlisted leadership on Thursday, according to Reuters.

"In the meantime, we will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect. As importantly, given the current fight and the challenges we face, we will all remain focused on accomplishing our assigned missions," he added.

China blocks out large swath of east seas for large scale military drills

Shortly after wrapping up the initial stage of the first-ever joint Russia-China drills in European waters, Beijing has reportedly blocked out a swath of ocean off the country's east coast for a fresh series of "large-scale" military drills.

"Large-scale military activities" are being held between the eastern port city of Lianyungang, in Jiangsu province, and Qingdao, in Shandong province, home to the navy's North Sea Fleet, AP reported, citing a notice from the government of Lianyungang.

Around 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 square miles) of the Yellow Sea will be off-limits for commercial shipping until Saturday, according to AP.

On Thursday, the Chinese and Russian navies concluded the first stage of joint military drills in the Baltic Sea, code-named 'Joint Sea 2017.'

Another blow to Trump: Senate rejects Obamacare repeal

The US Senate has not supported a "skinny" repeal of the previous administration's healthcare law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), widely known as Obamacare.

The repeal failed by a narrow margin of 49 - 51. At least three Republicans voted "no," including John McCain, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski. It was GOP Senator John McCain who cast the decisive vote, killing the repeal.

The bill's death in the Senate is seen as a blow to President Donald Trump. The US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) described the move as "a disappointing moment."

The "no" vote followed long Senate debates on the controversial Health Care Freedom Act.
