Criminals adorn there bodies with significant images as a right of passage and indicate there affiliations with certain negative groups and thought patterns.
I am not saying that all people that have tattoos are criminals, what I am saying is that tattoos are permanent markers. They can used be as identifiers of certain thought patterns.
In the ancient world when tattoos have been identified on human remains, they held some spiritual significance.
Seems to me in our times, we are low on spirit and more on visual impact.
