The Israeli Air Force (IAF) opened fire Saturday at the positions of Syrian artillery in the Golan Heights, the defense spokesperson said.

This is the third hit by what is believed to be a stray projectile in a week as Syrian forces are struggling to flush rebels out of the nearby hideouts.

"In response to the projectile which hit the northern Golan Heights, the IAF targeted artillery positions of the Syrian regime," the statement read. The spokesperson said that the projectile had been launched from Syria and hit an Israeli-administered area. No one was injured.

The Golan Heights is a disputed area on the Israeli-Syrian border. Israel occupied part of the territory during the 1967 war and has been managing it alongside other areas in the West Bank for almost half a century.
