Best of the Web: Bizarro world! France threatens to boycott Eurovision over Israeli TV show that predicted French contestant as Muslim, gay...and a terrorist

France has reportedly threatened to boycott the Eurovision song contest in protest over an Israeli television series which portrays France's entry in the popular competition as a terrorist.

Set to air in May, the three-part series called Douze Points ('twelve points' in French, the highest score you can receive at Eurovision) is about a French-Algerian Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorist posing as a gay man who manages to secure a place in the high-profile international song contest - ostensibly in hopes of carrying out a heinous terrorist attack live on television. The program will air the same week as Eurovision 2019, which is being hosted by Israel.

The fictional Israeli series has apparently rubbed French authorities the wrong way - perhaps because France will be represented this year by Bilal Hassani, a gay Muslim.

Comment: One dark possibility is that Hassani was selected afterwards to fit with a script.

But the show is presumably as its creators claim: a send-up of Israelis' obsession with terror.

Which leaves this a freakishly hilarious coincidence.

When Zionisms collide!

This show has it all: terror, entertainment, LGBT-ness, Muslim migrants... and the Israeli security services, of course, saving the day.

The Yellow Vests' bold movement is causing the French ruling class to lose their mind

yellow vests
The explosion of hysteria that struck the ruling class in the aftermath of Act 14 shows that the Yellow vests are scoring decisive points.

Everything, they have tried everything, but none of the scare tactics they used to cast anathema and discredit on their opponents will have worked. The demonization of the Yellow Vests accused in November of being under the influence of the extreme right - failed! The stigmatization of the supposed violence of the bad Yellow vests - failed! The attempt to introduce the venom of the migratory problem on the roundabouts - failed!

Presenter criticises far left and far right after 'racially motivated' attack outside theatre

The LBC radio presenter Maajid Nawaz has said he does not "harbour hate" towards the man who attacked him outside a theatre in central London, as police investigate after reports of a racially aggravated assault.

Nawaz was hit from behind outside the Soho theatre on Monday after 7pm by a white man who the presenter described as "a racist coward", posting a photo of the cut to his forehead caused by a punch with what could have been "a signet ring".

He criticised far-left social media users for politicising his attack by highlighting his centrist views, which they apparently claimed "legitimise rightwing hate". Nawaz is the founder of the Quilliam Foundation, a counter-extremism organisation.

Comment: Maajid Nawaz: Case study of an (ex) status-driven extremist?

Mexican officials deport 25 MS-13 gang members from migrant caravan in Mexico

ms-13 members deported
At least 25 people affiliated with the MS-13 gang were deported from Mexico after they were revealed to be concealed within the caravan of 1,600 Central American migrants just across the U.S. border, immigration officials said Tuesday.

The caravan first arrived in Piedras Negras, Mexico, two weeks ago across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas, when officials from the Instituto Nacional de Migración identified 10 gang members from Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.

But after warehouse scuffles with police last week, officials discovered and deported 15 additional MS-13 "agitators," INM Media Deputy Director Aline Juarez told Fox News.

In addition to the gang members, a total of 70 Central American migrants have been deported to their home countries, while about 1,500 have been granted humanitarian visas to move freely within Mexico.

Israel using Palestinian prisoners and children as guinea pigs to test weapons and pharmaceuticals

Palestinian activists protest
Palestinian activists take part in a protest in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons
Israeli Professor Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian revealed yesterday that the Israeli occupation authorities issues permits to large pharmaceutical firms to carry out tests on Palestinian and Arab prisoners, Felesteen.ps reported.

The Hebrew University lecturer also revealed that the Israeli military firms are testing weapons on Palestinian children and carry out these tests in the Palestinian neighbourhoods of occupied Jerusalem.

Speaking in Columbia University in New York City, Shalhoub-Kevorkian said that she collected the data while carrying out a research project for the Hebrew University.

"Palestinian spaces are laboratories," she said. "The invention of products and services of state-sponsored security corporations are fueled by long-term curfews and Palestinian oppression by the Israeli army."

Comment: Just when one thinks there is nothing more despicable that the Israeli's could inflict on the Palestinian population, they manage to reach a new level of malevolence.

Charcoal face masks deemed an example of 'racism' and 'blackface'

Crying racism where none exists makes people a lot less likely to listen to real accusations of racism.

Apparently, wanting to draw toxins out of your skin using a charcoal mask is actually pretty problematic - because the masks resemble blackface and are therefore "racist."

Accusations of the beauty product being racially insensitive hit Twitter after Twitter user Nicole Paula Oliver tweeted about it last week:

Students at Washington University in St. Louis have erased the "vagina" part of The Vagina Monologues - instead calling it The [Blank] Monologues - in order to be inclusive of other genitals.

"In adapting this show to become more gender inclusive, this year's audience members, regardless of how they identified, were able to more strongly connect with the impactful monologues," stated a piece in the college newspaper, The Student Life. "Thirty performers spoke 20 different pieces, all centering around sexuality, sexual violence, body image and more."

The piece further explains that "having a vagina and being a woman are not mutually exclusive, and lessons learned during the performance are important for everyone, no matter their gender identity."

Supreme Court delivers pivotal victory for asset forfeiture challenge

supreme court
States are bound by the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against excessive fines and fees when they seek to seize property or other assets from individuals charged or convicted of a crime, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously on Wednesday.

It's a decision that hands a major victory to critics of civil asset forfeiture, and it opens another avenue to legal challenges against that widely used (and often abused) practice by which states and local governments can seize cars, cash, homes, and pretty much anything else that is suspected of being used to commit a crime.

The case before the Supreme Court, Timbs v. Indiana, involved the seizure of a $42,000 Land Rover SUV from Tyson Timbs, who was arrested in 2015 for selling heroin to undercover police officers. He pleaded guilty to his crimes and was sentenced to one year of house arrest and five years of probation. On top of that, the state of Indiana seized his 2012 Land Rover-which he had purchased with money received from his late father's life insurance payout, not with the proceeds of drug sales-on the ground that it had been used to commit a crime.

Scandal-prone former sitcom star Roseanne Barr let loose against leftist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her 'green new deal' with a torrent of obscenities that would impress Gordon Ramsay.

In a video uploaded last weekend entitled "Bug eyed b***hes", the actress showcased her signature no-holds barred approach to politics. The 2-minute video is a dizzying jaunt between a variety of hot button issues including the environment, immigration and Israel.

While unable to recall Ocasio-Cortez's name, Barr had a lot of opinions to share about the "Farrakhan loving b***h" who "looks like a realtor" and her "green new deal" in particular.

A notorious interview with screen icon John Wayne where he said he 'believes in white supremacy' has resurfaced to fresh controversy online.

The Western actor who starred in films such as True Grit and The Quiet Man told Playboy in 1971 that "Hollywood studios are carrying their tokenism a little too far".

The interview, which was tweeted by screenwriter Matt Williams, also saw Wayne referring to Native Americans as "selfish".

"I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility," said Wayne in the interview."I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people."
