A security lapse that affected more than 1,000 workers forced one moderator into hiding - and he still lives in constant fear for his safety

Facebook put the safety of its content moderators at risk after inadvertently exposing their personal details to suspected terrorist users of the social network, the Guardian has learned.

The security lapse affected more than 1,000 workers across 22 departments at Facebook who used the company's moderation software to review and remove inappropriate content from the platform, including sexual material, hate speech and terrorist propaganda.

A bug in the software, discovered late last year, resulted in the personal profiles of content moderators automatically appearing as notifications in the activity log of the Facebook groups, whose administrators were removed from the platform for breaching the terms of service. The personal details of Facebook moderators were then viewable to the remaining admins of the group.

Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers have performed a planned routine flight over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed, adding that the air group was intercepted by western Air Forces on several occasions.
"On June 15, Tu-160 strategic missile carrying aircraft of the Russian Air Force performed a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea," the ministry told the Russian media. The bombers were accompanied by Russian Su-27 fighter jets of the Western Ministry Command and the A-50 distant early warning plane.

According to the ministry, the country's long-range air force "regularly performs scheduled flights over the neutral waters of the Atlantic, Arctic, the Black Sea and the Pacific Ocean."

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday it is checking on information indicating that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was reportedly killed in a Russia-led airstrike in Syria.

Russian Su-34 aircraft and an Su-35 multirole fighter carried out airstrikes near the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) stronghold of Raqqa in northern Syria on May 28, the ministry said. The strikes targeted a meeting of high-ranking Islamic State chiefs where al-Baghdadi was reportedly present.

The meeting was gathered to plan "routes for the exit of militants from Raqqa through the so-called 'southern corridor'," the statement read.
"According to information, which is being checked through various channels, IS leader Ibrahim Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi was also present at the meeting and was killed as a result of the strike," the ministry said in a statement.

Comment: This would be the third or fourth time the man has been reported dead. Maybe he is really a cat.

DOJ tells Americans don't believe anonymous officials

The Department of Justice has warned the American public not to take at face value anything attributed to anonymous government officials, just before another such report got Washington speculating about an investigation of President Donald Trump's son-in-law.
"Americans should exercise caution before accepting as true any stories attributed to anonymous 'officials,' particularly when they do not identify the country - let alone the branch or agency of government - with which the alleged sources supposedly are affiliated," Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in a statement Thursday evening. "Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations. The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations."
Shortly after Rosenstein's statement, the Washington Post published a story claiming that Ivanka Trump's husband Jared Kushner - who plays multiple advisory roles in the Trump White House - is being investigated as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged Russian election interference.

The US deployment of multiple rocket launchers in southern Syria may be intended to cut off Syrian government troops from allies in Iraq, since there are no Islamic State militants in the region to target with the weapons, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

The comment on Friday comes after the US deployed High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) in southern Syria, close to the border with Jordan. The powerful truck-mounted launchers arrived from Jordan to the city of At Tanf this week. The city serves as a base for militia forces trained by US instructors.

Greece gets credit lifeline while IMF considers joining bailout

Euro zone governments threw Greece another 11th-hour credit lifeline on Thursday worth $9.5 billion and sketched new detail on possible debt relief as the IMF finally offered to help out after two years of hesitation.

The 8.5 billion euros of loans from the euro zone's 18 other states, including Berlin which is wary of easing terms for Greece ahead of a German election in September, lets Athens avoid defaulting on bailout repayments next month and recognizes unpopular cuts and reforms the left-wing government has made.

"There is now light at the end of the tunnel," Greece's Euclid Tsakalotos told reporters after meeting fellow euro zone finance ministers and IMF chief Christine Lagarde in Luxembourg.

Jeremy Corbyn: Use empty luxury properties to accommodate Grenfell fire homeless

Properties deliberately kept empty by millionaires within a stone's throw of the Grenfell Tower disaster should be used to accommodate survivors who lost their homes, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says.

After touring the scene of the fire and speaking to residents on Thursday, Corbyn told journalists: "Kensington is a tale of two cities - it is among the wealthiest parts of this country, but the ward where this took place is one of the poorest.

"Residents must also be rehoused, using requisition of empty properties if necessary, in the community they love."

Ana Brnabic, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, has been appointed Serbia's first woman head of government.

"Brnabic has the professional quality for government and I know she will work hard and show the respect to all political parties. She will be working, together with all other ministers, on a better life for Serbia," President Aleksandar Vucic told a press conference on Thursday, adding that "many challenges" lie in front of the Serbia, as well as "many problems".

Vucic also announced the continuation of the current policy of reforms.

Brnabic was made a minister in August 2016 and is known for her pro-EU stance.

A non-party expert, she is also Serbia's first known LGBT minister.

Comment: The most important aspect of Brnabic - that she is a pro-American and pro-EU Serbian - has been overlooked here.

Leo Varadkar becomes Ireland's youngest ever PM (and he's gay, and the son of Indian immigrants)

The 38-year-old politician will replace outgoing taoiseach Enda Kenny after winning Fine Gael leadership contest
leo varadkar
The son of an Indian immigrant who came out as gay in 2015 will be the next Irish prime minister, after he was voted leader of the country's main governing party.

Leo Varadkar's victory in the Fine Gael leadership contest on Friday, which took place after outgoing PM Enda Kenny announced his resignation last month, marks another significant step forward for equality in the country, after 2015's gay marriage referendum.

As well as becoming Ireland's first gay prime minister, Varadkar, 38, will also become the country's youngest leader, and the first from an ethnic minority background. His position will be confirmed later this month when parliament resumes after a break.

Because Russia: Comey's Senate Intelligence Committee testimony - and his Big lies of omission

Comey lies
"The Democrats are not fighting Trump over his assault on health care, his attacks on immigrants, his militaristic bullying around the world, or even his status as a minority president who can claim no mandate after losing the popular vote. Instead, they have chosen to attack Trump, the most right-wing president in US history, from the right, denouncing him as insufficiently committed to a military confrontation with Russia."

Donald Trump is not the target of an FBI investigation.

Donald Trump has never been the target of an FBI investigation.

The FBI is not investigating Trump for collusion, improper relations with a foreign government, treason or any of the other ridiculous things he's been falsely accused of in the fake media. In fact, the FBI is not investigating him at all.
