The snipers who shot at protesters and police in Kiev were allegedly hired by Maidan leaders, according to a leaked phone conversation between the EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign affairs minister, which has emerged online.
"There is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers, it was not Yanukovych, but it was somebody from the new coalition," Paet said during the conversation.
"I think we do want to investigate. I mean, I didn't pick that up, that's interesting. Gosh," Ashton answered.
The President of Russia met with media representatives to answer a number of their questions, in particular with regard to the situation in Ukraine.

And lo and behold! the U.S. media immediately jumped into perception-management propaganda, before any thinking person has a chance to hear the Russian president's rational talk and see for themselves the difference in the quality of his words and the truth of what is happening in Ukraine.

New York Times countered his rational speech with the paramoralistic spinning of truth by various U.S. government salaried persons.
Think Progress named him "the world's most powerful troll" even.
This ridiculous,

Just hours after last weekend's
ouster of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, one of Pierre Omidyar's newest hires at national security blog "
The Intercept," was already digging for the truth.
Marcy Wheeler, who is the new site's "senior policy analyst,"
speculated that the Ukraine revolution was likely a "coup" engineered by "deep" forces on behalf of
"Pax Americana":
"There's quite a bit of evidence of coup-ness. Q is how many levels deep interference from both sides is."
These are serious claims. So serious that I decided to investigate them. And what I found was shocking.
Wheeler is partly correct. Pando has confirmed that the American government - in the form of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) - played a major role in funding opposition groups prior to the revolution. Moreover, a large percentage of the rest of the funding to those same groups came from a US billionaire who has previously worked closely with US government agencies to further his own business interests. This was by no means a US-backed "coup," but clear evidence shows that US investment was a force multiplier for many of the groups involved in overthrowing Yanukovych.

U.S. Sec. of State John Kerry pitifully latched onto bogus anti-Jewish leaflet to shore up his inherently weak position on Ukraine.
The US Secretary of State spoke today of the unacceptability of invading a sovereign country on phony pretexts in order to assert one's own interests in the 21st century. But no, he was not speaking about the United States, as one might have thought.
"You just don't invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests," John Kerry said during an interview with NBC's
Meet the Press. "This is an act of aggression that is completely trumped up in terms of its pretext. It's really 19th century behaviour in the 21st century."
Kerry has also threatened to isolate Russia economically and politically and warned of potential asset freezes and visa bans, adding to media and political hype that followed Russia authorization of sending a stabilization force in Crimea on official request from the authorities.
"There could be certainly disruption of any of the normal trade routine, there could be business drawback on investment in the country," he said. "There could even be ultimately asset freezes, visa bans."
Although Kerry was never challenged by the interviewer to comment in terms of that statement on Washington's own constant threats to use force and military invasions in Iraq and Afghanistan, those who watched the interview immediately smelled the hypocrisy.

As the crisis in Ukraine escalates, with Russian troops moving into the Crimean peninsula on Saturday, U.S. lawmakers are pushing for decisive action against Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the violence in the region and respect Ukraine's independence.
Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, Sens. Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democrat, and Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, made the case for congressional sanctions and a suspension of Russian membership in the G8 and G20.
Obama's warningGraham, who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said there needs to be more than threats coming from the White House, and called President Barack Obama "weak and indecisive" on matters of foreign policy.
Comment: You see, none of this is gonna make much sense unless you translate this to a situation that you have had experience with, or could have experience with. Nations, and the agreements between them, are a bit like a Homeowners Association. Each nation is a house, and groups of nations are blocks. So there's the North American Block, and the European Block, and so on.
Russia is a house next to another one called Ukraine. Russia has rented a room in the Ukrainian house, and part of the Russian family has moved in there. The mother in the Ukrainian house recently divorced her husband, and on the rebound has shacked up with an abusive psychopath. So the dad from the Russia house has sent a couple of his sons over to the room rented in the Ukrainian house to protect his other kids who are sub-letting the room from the Ukrainian Mom who now has the abusive psychopathic boyfriend who's taken over.
At this point, the Homeowners Association is the G8, and the Neighborhood Watch is NATO.
The American House has been strong-arming people for the last 13 years and buying up property like mad, breaking into peoples houses, beating up families, and extorting protection money. On the European Block, the English, French, Spanish, and German houses represent the 'oldtime money' people on the block, they flip-flop back and forth based on their own self interest and a hypocritical sense of noblesse oblige, and plain old inbred recalcitrance.
Now the Ukrainian house is on a big plot of land that borders all the well-moneyed European Block people, and they (the Europeans) covet it for themselves.
The greedy American House has a long-standing grudge against the Russian House - Daddy Russia and Daddy America don't like each other - and this is exacerbated by the fact that Daddy Russia just got a new car, has hit the gym, and is mowing the yard shirtless and showing off. Also, Daddy Russia's latest Christmas Lights Display (Sochi) was way better than Daddy America's.
It turns out that the America House got the Ukrainian House's Daddy drunk and paid a woman of ill-repute to lay next to him while he was passed out to get some incriminating photos which he showed to Momma Ukraine to get her to leave him, and then took her out on the town and hooked her up with the psycho boyfriend as part of a plot to get back at Daddy Russia.
The European Block got wind of this, and coveting the land owned by the Ukrainian House, decided to support the play tentatively (they may turn at any moment when things go south).
So that is where we are at. Daddy America, out of spite, tried to pull a fast one. The Self-Interested Europeans backed it, but Daddy Russia wasn't fooled. Now that they've been caught out, and Daddy Russia isn't backing down, it's time to make as much noise as possible to cover up the fact that America failed to achieve its goal, got caught with its hand in the cookie jar, and Daddy Russia is giving them a big wedgie for it.

Time waits for no one, but apparently will wait for Crimea. The speaker of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, has confirmed there will be a referendum on greater autonomy from Ukraine on May 25.
Until then, Crimea will be as hot and steamy as carnival in Rio - because Crimea is all about Sevastopol, the port of call for the Russian Black Sea fleet.

The absolute majority of the Crimean peninsula is populated by Russian speakers. Very few Ukrainians live there. In 1954, it took only 15 minutes for Ukrainian Nikita Krushchev - he of the banging shoe at the UN floor - to give Crimea as a free gift to Ukraine (then part of the USSR). In Russia, Crimea is perceived as Russian. Nothing will change that fact.
Anyone following the byzantine trials of Amanda Knox, the American exchange student accused with her onetime boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito of murdering her roommate in Perugia, will have noticed that criminal justice in Italy doesn't work the way it does in other countries. First they were guilty, then they weren't, now they are again. In the United States, this is commonly referred to as double jeopardy and is barred under the Constitution. In Italy, it's pretty much business as usual.
When the pair was first arrested, more than six years ago, they were left to rot in jail and for months - in Sollecito's case in solitary confinement - before charges were brought. They didn't qualify for bail because bail does not exist in Italy. The prosecution regularly leaked information to the media but did not formally share its investigative findings with the defendants or their lawyers until the summer of 2008, by which time the public was broadly convinced they were no ordinary college students, but rather, depraved sex addicts who had forced the victim, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher, into a satanic orgy before brutally stabbing her to death.
To this day, it remains doubtful whether evidence ever existed to substantiate such a scenario.
