Sweden looks smarter every day.
We are probably both wrong:

.....as if numerical exactitude actually matters when making a joke.
I thought the point was obvious. Lockdown is a most asinine and counter-productive measure to take in such circumstances as these - as many of the World's most eminent epidemiologists have been shouting from the rooftops:

Put it this way. If the media took a common virus such as causes seasonal 'flu (or even the common cold) and subjected it to the type of over-hyped publicity as has been given Covid. If they then counted every person who dies with that virus as a death from it. You would have virtually the same situation of mass panic. Bloomfield and Ardern are naive and stupid to have ignored NZ's most qualified epidemiologist, Simon Thornely:

New Zealand has had about 20 deaths (all among the aged and infirm). The classic example was a 96 year old woman who had actually recovered from Covid then subsequently died of old age. I watched with amazement as she was added to the list. The deaths caused by lockdown have yet to be counted but current predictions put them in the hundreds of millions.
Disclosure: I am a septuagenarian Kiwi with blood ties back to the steersman on the Mātaatua. I am awaiting either a simple but vital medical procedure (postponed by this nonsense) or a second stroke that will leave me either incapacitated or dead.
A 33yo husband and father of 3, family guy. All the best, my good man.
Thanks for your kind remarks. I've had a good innings - a couple of good careers, sailed around the World in my own and other's yachts and lived to see my mokopuna (Grandkids) thrive. Been very active and fit up until recently but have a dodgy valve that would see me spending more time out and away from this computer den if replaced - maybe even returning to the Aid and Development work that became my most loved career after retirement.
I have to say that my confidence in the medical establishment has taken a tumble since this mass hysteria took over.
Arohanui and thanks to SOTT.

Why not isolate the family and locate their contacts instead of locking down such a large geographic area?

And it’s hard to imagine any nation thriving long-term when it consistently cultivates weakness."

The linked article isn't about NZ, but to my way of thinking it describes the direction the "western democracies" are headed - the final destination will be devoid of anything "democratic" (IMO).
I was born and bred in Melbourne and my 101 year old mother still lives there (at home). Hence my interest.
Rubbing onions, herbs or a chopped up snake (if available) on the boils or cutting up a pigeon and rubbing it over an infected body.
Drinking vinegar, eating crushed minerals, arsenic, mercury or even ten-year-old treacle!
Sitting close to a fire or in a sewer to drive out the fever, or fumigating the house with herbs to purify the air.
People who believed God was punishing you for your sin, 'flagellants', went on processions whipping themselves.
In the 1361 - 1364 outbreak, doctors learned how to help the patient recover by bursting the buboes.
Doctors often tested urine for colour and health. Some even tasted it to test.
A source from 1380 presents a cynical view of the medical profession: "Doctors need three qualifications: to be able to lie and not get caught; to pretend to be honest; and to cause death without guilt.” - Jean Froissart’s Chronicles.
