Michael Jordan church sign
New Era Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama posted incendiary messages on its church sign, including a message that declared "Black Folks Need To Stay Out Of White Churches" and a message on the reverse side of the sign that read, "White Folks Refused To Be Our Neighbors."

The church's pastor, Michael Jordan, who is black, objects to nearby Church of the Highlands plan for an upcoming satellite church campus that is planned for his community.

This campus will be "in one of Birmingham's most violent neighborhoods," according to The Christian Post.

Church of the Highlands is the biggest church in the state of Alabama, and according to CBS News- the second-largest church in the nation.

Speaking to WVTM, Pastor Jordan said white people departed from the inner city for the suburbs and took their churches with them.

"White folk have proved they don't want to live next door to us or be our neighbors or worship with us. Now they want to plant a white church in a black neighborhood under the umbrella of supposedly to fight crime," he said.

But Pastor Jordan said Church of the Highlands has a very different motivation: He says the "real reason" is to reapportion black attendees from the main church campus to an inner city church.

When responding to a question about the Church of the Highlands' intent to use its new campus to combat crime, the pastor said, "If you don't want to be our neighbors, if you don't want to live next door to black African Americans, how can you put a white church over here to help fight crime?"

While the pastor of the new campus would be a black man, Pastor Jordan said he would "just be a token" and that "the white administrators of Church of the Highlands will boss him and control his sermons."

Pastor Jordan described the white church as a historically "racist hypocritical organization," that failed to decry evils like lynching and slavery, and he said, "the white church elected a racist president, Donald Trump."
