A nationwide smoking ban is set to be implemented across the Philippines, replicating rules currently observed in
president Duterte's former jurisdiction, Davao City, where he was mayor.
The new rules, which have been drawn up in an executive order and are awaiting the president's approval,
will see all public places across the country - indoor and outdoor - become smoke-free areas."What is being done in Davao is set to be done nationwide," health secretary Pauline Ubial said, the
Manila Bulletin reported."
There will be nobody smoking in public places anymore, whether indoor or outdoor. Parks, bus stations, and even in vehicles. All these are considered public places," the health secretary said, adding that the executive order is expected to be signed this month.
The move comes two weeks after president Duterte re-stated his plans to ban smoking in the Philippines, claiming that it brought diseases to both smokers and non-smokers, the
Philippine Star reported.
The country's department of health is also attempting to amend "grey areas" in the current law around the sale of tobacco. Ms Ubial said
the department wants to "totally prohibit point-of-sale advertisements" for tobacco and designated indoor smoking areas.

Comment: Duterte has gone on an understandable campaign to rid The Philippines of drugs, corruption and Western influence. Unfortunately, in his zeal he apparently hasn't made the connection that the global anti-smoking crusade is an insidious aspect of Western dominance. Reconsider, Duterte!
Both Undeclared Title Change and SOTT’s comment prove Bias that should be beneath SOTT,
I. Re your (unnamed) 'linker/editor’s comment, “Duterte has gone on an understandable campaign to rid The Philippines of drugs,” I am simply floored by the idiocy and bias of such a statement from SOTT.
"Duterte has gone on an understandable campaign to rid The Philippines of drugs..."
Which ‘drugs’ are those which the above SOTT Comment feels are “understandable” to be gotten rid of? Which ‘users’ should properly be subject to the Philippines' ‘officially approved/ignored’ lynch-mob-like executions?
I believe everyone should be able to self consume whatever they want - while niever being allowed to
- charge the public for the cost of any needed medical treatment resulting therefrom, nor,
- ever use their ‘helpless addiction to x y or z’ as a defense to their ACTIONS!
SOTT: You gotta A problem with that point? Please explain, using evidence, not anegcdotal BS.
II. Re ‘Bad’ vs. ‘Good’ ‘Drugs’/ WHAT’S A ‘PER SE’ BAD DRUG? (Answer: None. Depends upon usage, setting, et al.)
Ever ‘bummed out’ when your pot supply failed? You are ‘psychologically’ addicted.
Ever stop drinking coffee and get a headache? You are not merely psychologically - but also physiologically! - addicted.
Did you know that both an underdose AND an overdose of H2O can kill? (We are ALL ‘addicted’ to water!) Or that folks have gotten themselves so addicted to the pleasure of F*****g BURPING that if they were cut off from their baking soda with water that they would die?
As such, both water and baking soda, are ‘drugs’, and it seems that SOTT’s position is that individuals should NEVER have any choice in what their governments decide for them, even as regards baking soda or water! Oops, . . except for tobacco.
After all, this article was originally entitled: “Smoking set to be banned across Philippines - The ban will emulate that already in place in Davao City, where president Duterte was mayor.” AT [Link] Which SOTT, UNANNOUNCED, changed to: Duterte-has-gone-too-far-Philippines-government-bans-smoking; AT
Duterte has gone too far! Philippines government bans smoking
A nationwide smoking ban is set to be implemented across the Philippines, replicating rules currently observed in president Duterte's former jurisdiction, Davao City, where he was mayor. The new...Nearly a year without a national government and the people of Spain are getting along just fine
For the past 288 days, Spain has plodded along without an elected national government. For some Spaniards, this is a wonderful thing. "No government, no thieves," said Félix Pastor, a language...III. More supposedly ‘good’ vs. ‘bad’ drug examples:
Ever get the shits when you quit heroin? (See Trainspotting film.) you are likewise physiologically addicted.
In some countries, caffeine is illegal, while smoking opium is an unpunished sign of manliness.
If you are from South America and are saddened that you- thanks to US’s BS - can’t get your mate’ - (tea made from coca leaves) you are likewise, simply, psychologically addicted.
What’s the most addicting? (Hardest to quit?) tobacco/nicotine.
IV. Conclusion
So, SOTT, which drugs - as defined by this asshole tyrant Duerte as ‘illegal’ - JUSTIFY his TENS of thousands of lynch mob like-executions? Which justify a single death???
Get real! Just because he’s savvy enough to distrust the U.S. does NOT make him good. (See, e.g., Hitler, S. Hussein, et al.)
I figured SOTT editors would be aware of such basics. Sadly, they obviously haven’t read ‘Drug Warriors and Their Prey” by Miller, which perfectly likens the West’s ‘War on (some) Drugs’ to the exact same tactics used by Hitler for Nazi Camps* - and as al ready used in ‘our’ “War on Drugs”**
I’d suggest it’s long past the time that someone MORE THAN ONLY the article’s SOTT-approved and routinely unnamed ‘editor/linker’
1- Be named;
2 - Be subject to another input / review before any comments and/or Headline Changes, and
3. That the latter be expressly declared.

** “War on Drugs”- my ass! - all wars are always, ultimately, on people/humans.
