There are a lot of new alt coins emerging that are anonymous and secure that could quite possibly eclipse Bitcoin where it failed in such manners. Crypto coins are still in their infancy though and a huge market in hardware for mining has exploded, so even if Bitcoin does fail there are others in the wings waiting to take its place.
