US: Collapsing Roads Lead to Emergency Declaration

Oroville, California -- Butte County has declared a local emergency after saturated soil caused the ground to literally slide out from under two of the county's roads.

Oro Quincy Highway and Bardees Bar Road have been closed since Tuesday when public works crews discovered sections of the road had developed cracks and started to drop.

Once the declaration is approved by state and federal officials the county will be eligible to receive funding for the repairs which could total more than half a million dollars.

Nobody has been stranded by the closure of the roads.

Engineering Failure

Being a master builder, it looks like the engineering for the road was wrong in the first place. Usually you design something to withstand the surrounding complications, that could occur. In this case, too much rain water, which should have been calculated into the designs of the road, in the first place. The only thing too blame here, are the engineers that designed this section of road, in the first place. Cutting corners to save money in construction, just costs more money, in the end too repair something that should not need too be repaired, if it was properly constructed, in the first place, we would'nt even be seing this report.

if you were to lay that guy down he would reach about half way across a 10 ft. lane so it looks like he is about a 5 ft. tall man minus the cracks that make that lane a little wider it looks about right but from where the camera is taking the picture depends on the lense of the camera looks like a panorama view or something else!
