Public execution? Stormtroopers? Those are police officers and they're dressed that way for protection and with good cause. And that woman is not being arrested. Try to get a grip, Sott. Did you steal your caption writer from Granma?

Unfortunately, you are mistaken. She was arrested and this is the moment just before the arrest. As for the reference to Alton Sterling, the shooting of a suspect without due process could in some cases maybe be seen as an execution by the state, whether they have reasonable cause or not, so I'd have to disagree with you on that point as well. There are just far too many shootings to not see some of them at least as extrajudicial public executions, IMO. Also, whose grandma has a caption writer?

slbeaudry: I'll give you the point on her arrest. I was uncertain of that when I wrote it. Can't imagine what she was arrested for. I'd still need proof that she was arrested to be totally convinced.

I stick to my guns regarding much of the rest of the caption phrasing. The shooting of Sterling, a man with a lengthy police record who was carrying a gun, was not a "public execution." It was an arrest gone bad.That and the word "stormtroopers" drip with intentional double meaning. They are police officers dressed properly these days, alas, to confront riots or potential ones. As for their being "far too many shootings," statistically the number of police shootings, fatally or otherwise, black or white, is very low. Where there are far too many shootings are in black ghettos where they are being mowed down on a regular basis. Of course, gun-controlled (irony!) Chicago is a classic case. There are many others.

As for Granma, it's the regime newspaper of Cuba. Quite famous, actually.

Never heard of Granma, so thanks for that. As for stormtroopers and public executions, I would stand by the caption. But that's me. They are NOT dressed appropriately. That's classic intimidation and how are people supposed to react to that kind of show of force? I'm anti-violence and frankly I'm sick of all of it. Now, take a look at what happened in Wichita, Kansas when the police made the right decision and had a community lunch outreach instead of showing up in stormtrooper gear. [Link]
Then you can tell me whether you still think it's appropriate to scare citizens into compliance or perhaps instead work harder toward building a relationship with the community they signed up to protect.

It is indeed a terrible do but alas there's worse to come. For those that know of me of years past, you'll know I'm an Earthwatcher, one that...
