St. Louis: Threat of nuclear fallout looms due to landfill fire near nuclear waste dump

According to an emergency plan recently distributed by St. Louis County officials, a fire at the Bridgeton Landfill is now within 1,000 feet of a nuclear waste dump. The landfill fire has actually been burning for over 5 years, and they have been unable to contain it thus far.

There are clouds of smoke that have been billowing from the site, making the air in parts of St. Louis heavily polluted. In 2013, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster sued Republic Services, the company responsible for the landfill, charging the company with neglecting the site and harming the local environment.

Last year, city officials became concerned that the fire may reach the nearby West Lake Landfill, which is littered with decades worth of nuclear waste from government projects and weapons manufacturing. Remnants from the Manhattan Project and the Cold War have been stuffed there for generations. The site has been under the control of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 1990, but they have not made any significant effort to clean up the waste.

Hats off to Medicine Hat: The first Canadian city to eradicate homelessness

When there are more foreclosed homes than individuals living on the street, you know there's something wrong with 'the system'. Cities like Dallas, Texas and Honolulu, Hawaii have implemented creative concepts to help remedy the homelessness crisis in the States, but until recently, no major Canadian city had successfully alleviated its homelessness issue.

But that has changed in the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, where all 60,000 residents now sleep soundly in a safe environment with a roof. Thanks to a new policy in the Canadian city, housing is mandated for everyone who has spent 10 days in a shelter or on the streets.

Now, when officials of the city learn of an individual living in these circumstances, they move him or her (or the family) into a house or apartment. Mayor of the town, Ted Clugston, says 10 days is the absolute limit an individual may live on the streets - even though the city is normally quick to find housing for homeless individuals.

Comment: Imagine if all cities in the world behaved with such compassion towards people in need. Homelessness is not an insoluble problem. All it takes is empathy and dedication and the exclusion of psychopaths who try to thwart the process.

US Agent indicted for emptying handgun into Mexican teen across the border

A US Border Patrol agent was arraigned on federal murder charges Friday for killing a 16-year-old Mexican teen from across the border three years ago.

Agent Lonnie Ray Swartz is the first agent to ever face a murder charge for shooting a Mexican national across the border, though he is not the first to do so.


Comment: According to the Southern Border Communities Coalition, since 2010 at least 39 immigrants died in connection with the Border Patrol. This number includes Anastasio Hernandez Rojas, a 42-year-old San Diego resident tortured to death at a Border Patrol station.


On October 10, 2012, Swartz shot and killed 16-year-old Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez, who was just walking down a sidewalk in Nogales, Sonora. Swartz was across the border in Nogales, Arizona. He claims that he fired on the teenager in self-defense, against people who were throwing rocks on the other side of the fence.

Comment: Hopefully this 'man' gets the justice he deserves, but his justification for murdering an unarmed child is very familiar. Also see:
There are many Palestinian children in the West Bank villages in the shadow of Israel's separation wall and Jewish settlements on Palestinian lands. Where largely non-violent protests have sprung up as a form of resistance, there are children who throw stones, and raids by Israel are common. But lawyers and human rights groups have decried Israel's arrest policy of targeting children in villages that resist the occupation.

In most cases, children as young as 12 are hauled from their beds at night, handcuffed and blindfolded, deprived of sleep and food, subjected to lengthy interrogations, then forced to sign a confession in Hebrew, a language few of them read.

Anyone who reads Western media coverage of Russia's intervention in Syria will notice that a note of bafflement has crept in.

How can Russia, the country "that doesn't produce anything", whose economy is supposedly smaller than Britain's or even Spain's, and which is said to be economically on the ropes, able to conduct an air campaign in Syria?

The short — and obvious — answer is that Russia's economy is much bigger than Western political leaders and commentators imagine.

Not only would Britain or Spain be unable to mount the sort of air campaign the Russians are waging in Syria.

They cannot run a huge space programme, develop rockets like the Angara rockets, build a space centre like Vostochny, develop the Arctic, construct nuclear powered ice breakers, or feed themselves.

Nor can they build a bridge as rapidly as the one the Russians are building to Crimea.

Nor can they create alternatives to Google like Yandex, or alternatives to GPS like GLONASS, or alternatives to SWIFT like the Russians have done in just a few months.

In military production, any idea any European state can simultaneously develop fifth generation fighters like the SU T50, tanks like the Armata, submarines like the Yasen and the Borei, or missiles like the Bulava and the Yars, is sheer fantasy.

Russia does all these things, and much else.

Comment: So for those Western commentators, who want to strip Russia of the seat at the UN security council under the pretext that it is just a minor regional power, the rapidity, size and stealth of the Russian Syrian campaign has put this to shame.

An organization called the Global Rally for Humanity is planning to launch Anti-Islamist rallies in 20 cities throughout the US via social media this weekend and that has mosques around the country preparing for the worst.


Comment: The 'Global Rally for Humanity' ? Really? You can't make this stuff up.


Global Rally for Humanity organizers who are are calling on followers to protest Islam are claiming that their actions are not bigoted.

"Standing up against Islam does not mean you're a racist or a bigot, it simply means you're not an idiot and can see the reality of Islam around the world," rally organizers wrote on their Facebook page. "The world is saying no to Islam."


Comment: "The reality of Islam around the world"?? What does this even mean? Well one poster to their Facebook page seems to have an idea:
They come here to escape that and you a******s want to take it away from them...Y'all have no moral high ground whatsoever...When was the last time any of you idiots had jets bomb your home and foreign troops breaking down your doors?...what?...never?....or even protesting with weapons outside your place of worship?...you f*****g people are ignorant...People like you need to GTFO of my country...Immigrants built this country and diversity make us the best...Look what happen to the last a*****e who though his people were the 'master race'...He ended up killing himself and almost took his country and people with him...there's your f*****g supremacy...

According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, organizers of Global Rally for Humanity have planned events in 20 cities. The news story said they indicated on their Facebook account that "they are with the Oath Keepers and Three Percenters, two groups described by the Anti-Defamation League as extremist anti-government movements that grew after President Barack Obama took office." (Update: A representative of the Oath Keepers contacted us to say that the event was not officially sanctioned by them.)
So what exactly is going on here? From oathkeepers.org we see precisely zilch about the rally. If this event was their doing, wouldn't they be likely to mention it on their active website, and not just only Facebook? It's quite possible though that some offshoot or group professing to be a part of the Oath Keepers got infiltrated with some FBI or CIA-sponsored provocateurs. That, or this splinter group, if that is what it is, is suffering from a serious bout of the Dunning-Kruger effect - at least as far as the stated objectives from the above mentioned site go. You'd think that those who were standing up for the constitution - because of the obvious abuses of the Federal Government - might also be astute enough by now to see through Islamophobic demonization and propaganda for what it is, but then again...

Baltimore woman treated like 'piece of cargo' during 'rough ride' with police awarded $95k

Amid continued tension between police and the community, the city of Baltimore has agreed to pay a woman $95,000 who alleged she was given a "rough ride" in a police van three years ago, something police were criticized for in the death of Freddie Gray.

The "rough ride" case involved Christine Abbott, who was arrested at a private party on Falls Road, Baltimore in 2012 after police followed up on a noise complaint. When police arrived, they threatened to use a Taser gun on her boyfriend when he refused to put out his cigarette. Abbott intervened but was told to "calm down" by the cops, according to court documents obtained by Baltimore Brew.

Officer Lee Grishot then allegedly "grabbed Abbott and threw her to the ground,"causing her dress to "become ripped" and "exposing her breasts" as she was stood up by the officer, the Baltimore Brew reported. Her shoulder and breasts were cut and bleeding.

She said two officers put her, bleeding and in handcuffs, into a police transport van, which they then "maniacally drove" to the police station, tossing her around the interior of the van and causing her further injury. Abbott said it left her feeling like a "piece of cargo," according to the Baltimore Sun.

In court documents, police officers denied giving Abbot a "rough ride," but one officer admitted he did not strap or harness her into the back of the van, as required by police procedures.

Abbott was charged with "assault, resisting arrest, obstructing and hindering, and disorderly conduct," and was detained for nearly a day before being released. She was hospitalized for her injuries and the charges against her were later dismissed.

A Florida woman has had her eye glued shut for a week since a friend accidentally poured glue into her eyes instead of eye droppings.

Now, Katherine Gaydos can't afford surgery to treat her injury.

The single mother of two told ABC affiliate WPBF that she was being seen by a doctor who discontinued treatment and postponed surgery until she could find a way to afford it.

"He was talking about doing surgery to try and save my eye, but now I don't know what to do - I don't have a job, no insurance or any money," she told WPBF.

Gaydos' nightmare started last week when she accidentally got debris in her eye while using a leaf blower.

"Something blew into my eye," Gaydos said. "I screamed for someone else to get eye drops out of my purse, and they brought super glue and poured it into my eye. I closed my eye and screamed and called 911."

The company Super Glue recommends people immediately wash their eyes out with water as soon after getting it into their eyes, and to not pry their eyes open.

Sticky situations like this one have been reported in the past. In 2008, an Arizona woman made the same mistake as Gaydos' friend. Last month in Canada, a receptionist with no medical experience accidentally applied medical glue for a cut on a boy's eye.

To our knowledge there has never been a documented case of adhesive in the eye causing permanent damage. Do not try to force eyes open.
  • Eyeball: The adhesive will attach itself to the eye protein and will disassociate from it over time, usually within several hours. Periods of weeping and double vision may be experienced until clearance is achieved. Use of water to wash eyes repeatedly may assist in aiding more rapid removal of the adhesive.

Walter Scott's family to receive $6.5 million from the City of North Charleston for the murder of their son

The family of Walter L. Scott, an unarmed African-American man shot dead by a white South Carolina police officer during a traffic stop in April, has reached a $6.5 million settlement with the city of North Charleston.
The city council approved the settlement by a 10-0 vote on Thursday, with Scott's relatives present as the agreement was announced publicly.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey released a statement saying that he was "glad the city and the family were able to reach a settlement without the necessity of a lawsuit." "As mayor, I was directly in touch with the Scott family immediately after the tragedy occurred and offered our heartfelt condolences for their loss. We have supported the family and are extremely sorry for their loss," Summey stressed.

The victim's brother, Anthony Scott, welcomed the settlement, saying that it would be a great help to the four children who lost their dad.

Walter Scott was killed on April 4, with the incident, which was caught on video, adding fire to the already-heated debate over the way black people are treated by police in America. Officer Michael T. Slager fired eight bullets into the 50-year-old man's back, as he tried to escape from the cop after a traffic stop.

Comment: 6.5 million is a start. If cities all over the U.S. starting paying that amount for every murder, these psychopathic bureaucrats might take have to take action by reigning in these thugs; to preserve their precious money, of course.

A Columbus attorney has announced that a 12-year-old Amish girl is cancer-free, despite courtroom testimony last year from doctors that she would be dead in six months without chemotherapy treatments.

Maurice Thompson, the executive director for the libertarian nonprofit 1851 Center for Constitutional Law, said the girl, Sarah Hershberger, shows no signs of cancer and appears to be healthy.

"She had MRIs and bloodwork, and the judge over the last year helped facilitate at least one trip to the Cleveland Clinic. The MRIs did not show any cancer," Thompson told The Gazette on Friday.

He said the family will continue to treat the girl with less-invasive, alternative medicine.

"Once you have it, you're never 100 percent out of the woods, whether or not you get chemotherapy," he said. "I know how she looks isn't really an indication of whether she has cancer, but she's looking very healthy."

When Sarah was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, her parents accepted chemo treatment for her at Akron Children's Hospital. But Andy and Anna Hershberger, of Homer Township, said they felt the treatments were killing their daughter and ceased her treatments.

Comment: Kudos to these parents for having the guts to go against the dictates of the medical/ pharmaceutical cartel. Considering the uselessness and toxicity of chemotherapy drugs, this child might well be dead had her parents not fled the country to seek alternative treatment.

With two shootings on college campuses Friday, the number of US school shootings in 2015 has climbed to 52, with 30 people killed and 53 others injured. These totals include suicides, incidents in which no one was hit, and one attack on a school bus.

Gunfire broke out Friday morning on the Northern Arizona University and Texas Southern University campuses. In Flagstaff, Arizona, a shooting left a freshman dead and three other young men injured, while two were shot, one fatally, in Houston.

The shootings became the 51st and 52nd school shootings this year, based on data compiled by the anti-firearm organization Everytown for Gun Safety, the Kansas City Star, and RT. Friday's shooting at TSU was the third time in the last six weeks that the school has ended up on the list. There have been two killed and three injured in the trio of gun incidents.

Of the 52 shootings, 21 have been at colleges and universities, 15 at high schools, three at middle schools, 10 at elementary schools, two at preschools, and one on a school bus. Suicides account for six of the incidents, while no one was struck by bullets in 13 of the shootings. There were also two that could be classified as murder-suicides, at the University of South Carolina in February and at Delta State University in mid-September.

There have been at least two school shootings a month in 2015, including five so far in October.
