The teaching profession is stuffed full of authoritarian followers. In fact, the opportunity to be one is a primary draw to the profession. Its hierarchical, rule-following, structure is second only to the military. People give orders to you, and you follow them, then give orders to kids. Being a 'good team player' and keeping all those little bodies marching to your orders, are your primary responsibilities. If you're actually able to be a good teacher (communicate well, assess and respond to individual educational needs, evaluate the appropriateness of available materials, like kids), that's icing on the cake. In most schools, it won't get you fired if you aren't a good teacher, but it WILL get you fired if you don't follow orders and manage your classroom. This Bend teacher just fits the mold, that's all. The authority figures are telling her there's a deadly pandemic, and by damn she's going to not only believe it, she's going to shame and belittle others so that they also do what the authority figures say. I've known a legion of these people in my teaching career, and I'm oh-so-weary of it. I still like teaching, though.Well said. Here's a fun fact about public schools in Commu-fornia. A credential instructor (high up mind you) told our class - "Always teach to the lowest performing students and ignore the brighter ones"....I ...KID...YOU...NOT.
Comment: Yet another example of people losing it when they completely buy into the fear campaign over a non-dangerous virus.
