BTW THANKS for 'oxalates' i just finished researching!! Nowwww i also know why i crave BUTTERNUT squash during my fasting!Just search for "anti nutrients". Veggies, many fruits, and most nuts and seeds contain phytic acid and oxalates, to bind the nutrients. Plants don't want to be eaten - the big secret vegans cannot or want not understand.
mmm i read that calcium deficiency is the real culprit, does that make sense?Not only calcium. Phytic acid and oxalic acid form insoluble salts with almost all the minerals in the plant, so almost nothing is available/digestible for humans in raw form. Heating cooking destroys it partially, but also the rest. And even worse, there is "free" phytic/oxalic acid that binds minerals already absorbed by the body. So, the net effect is negative - eating (mostly) veggies will deplete you even more than eat nothing.
