A mysterious tremor was felt by residents on the edges of Snowdonia today.

Debbie Green, who owns a farm near Cwm Silyn, described the noise as "deafening".

The farmer said that she began to feel a vibration in her feet when sat in her living room, but suddenly heard a "massive noise" before her entire house began to shake.

The incident caused her dogs to "kick off" and spooked the horses on the farm who had to be calmed down afterwards.

Other people in the area experienced something similar at 2.10pm today, including Ms Green's neighbour whose house also began to shake inexplicably at the same time.

There was an earthquake in the Bedforshire town of Leighton Buzzard at 12.20am this morning, but the British Geological Survey said they had "no evidence of a seismic disturbance, of any kind, detected by the BGS seismograph network" in North Wales.

There was also a controlled explosion in Aberdesach after an explosive was found on the beach, but this took place at 5.30pm - over three hours after Ms Green and other residents felt the tremor.

Debbie says that the tremor lasted "4-5 seconds, but it felt longer."

"It sounded exactly like an earthquake," she said.

"It might have been a mine collapse or something like that. We used to live near an airfield and my husband thought that it was a sonic boom initially, but the entire house shook for a few seconds so it couldn't have been that.

"It's so strange - hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it."

A number of other residents in the area claim to have experienced the same thing, with many putting it down to an earthquake.

The real cause, however, remains to be seen.
