In our culture, the old have failed the young. Hate-driven shootings in schools and houses of worship, rising suicide and addiction rates - these are the most dramatic indications. But a quieter sense of numbness and despair, concealed in mindless social media and the omnipresent screens, is far more widespread.
What Lies Behind It All?Questions about biological origins are NOT of merely scientific importance. These questions go to the heart of how we think about the value of individual human beings. Increasingly evident is the relationship between
noxious racial theories, devaluing or demonizing whole classes of men and women, and the philosophy of scientific materialism.
As the news hammers home to us, young people are especially vulnerable to poisonous, Internet-mediated messages. That's one reason Discovery Institute has teamed up with a gifted cinematographer who wanted to create a new video series,
Science Uprising, that would be relevant to viewers in their thirties and younger. The series will launch on June 3, with new episodes to be released weekly through July 8.
An Edgier StyleThe new series will have an edgier style than anything we have produced in the past. What does that mean? Take a look at the trailer:
Science Uprising is premised on the idea that a majority of us share a skepticism about the claims of materialism - the claims that people are just "robots made of meat, with a really sophisticated onboard guidance system," lacking souls, lacking free will or moral responsibility, having emerged from the ancient mud without purpose or guidance. And yet, however skeptical we may be, the media labor intensively to correct our skepticism. Popular science spokesmen like Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson insist that people are anything but designed children of a loving, intelligent creator.
A Counterforce to DespairThe need for a counterforce is urgent. "This is one of those projects, that if my career concluded right now, I could finish satisfied," says an editor of the series, one of those who came together to turn Science Uprising into reality, drawing on their past experience working with the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, National Geographic Wild, and Animal Planet, among other media venues.
Each episode features a masked narrator. Why? Because much of the burden of resisting materialism falls to scientists and others in the universities who have been made to fear speaking out in favor of the design hypothesis.
Scientists and scholars who have spoken out, pulling the mask off materialist mythology, share the truth with viewers. From episode to episode, they include chemist James Tour, philosopher Jay Richards, neuroscientist Michael Egnor, biochemist Michael Behe, philosopher of science Stephen Meyer, psychiatrist Jeffrey Schwartz, physicist Frank Tipler, and others.
Materialists understand very well what is at stake. That's why Richard Dawkins, who became an atheist at age 15 under the influence of evolutionary thinking, has written his next book,
Outgrowing God: A Beginner's Guide.
Science Uprising counters these corrosive trends with a hopeful, accessible message in a fast-paced style, about meaning in the cosmos and in life. You can follow the series at the
Science Uprising website, on YouTube, and here at Evolution News.
Really? Wherein were the young ever promised, or entitled to enter into a world where fallibility does not exist? What generation, as far back as human records exist, was in such a state of perfection that the young could universally trust their elders never to let them down? everything they encountered in life turned out to be exactly as it was told them?
This is the attitude of naive and immature children, who have yet to awaken to the imperfection of life. Fools if nothing else.
"...young people are especially vulnerable to poisonous, Internet-mediated messages." So what's new? The human race has always had its portion of gullible, chicken littles, the cult followers, opportunist cult leaders, etc.. Read all about it in the works of Eric Hoffer. Before the internet it was other forms, going back to the earliest records where soothsayers saw signs and portents in the heavens, prognosticating bullshit, dressed in official garb of the local king's retinue. Montaigne recorded that tribes in the West Indies hunted down the witch doctor and ignominiously ended their life, in the event they prognosticated incorrectly. That resolution would sure diminish the effects of of bullshit science and philosophy, at least by such folks as Bill Nye, Michio Kaku, Neil Tyson, and Richard Dawkins.
That such notables are (perhaps unwittingly) in on the gig, we have the confession of those behind the silk curtain:
“The administrators, whom we shall choose from among the public, with strict regard to their capacities for servile obedience, will not be persons trained in the arts of government, and will therefore easily become pawns in our game in the hands of men of learning and genius who will be their advisers, specialists bred and reared from early childhood to rule the affairs of the whole world. As is well known to you, these specialists of ours have been drawing to fit them for rule the information they need from our political plans from the lessons of history, from observations made of the events of every moment as it passes. The goyim are not guided by practical use of unprejudiced historical observation, but by theoretical routine without any critical regard for consequent results. We need not, therefore, take any account of them—let them amuse themselves until the hour strikes, or live on hopes of new forms of enterprising pastime, or on the memories of all they have enjoyed. For them let that play the principal part which we have persuaded them to accept as the dictates of science (theory). It is with this object in view that we are constantly, by means of our press, arousing a blind confidence in these theories. The intellectuals of the goyim will puff themselves up with their knowledges and without any logical verification of them will put into effect all the information available from science, which our agentur specialists have cunningly pieced together for the purpose of educating their minds in the direction we want. Do not suppose for a moment that these statements are empty words: think carefully of the successes we arranged for Darwinism, Marxism, Nietzscheism. To us Jews, at any rate, it should be plain to see what a disintegrating importance these directives have had upon the minds of the goyim.” Protocols 2.2
EVERY generation has its blind-side, and believing that Science Uprising is going to remedy this problem is another ruse to the unwary. These folks look through the same dark glass, seeing no more clearly the human condition than their predecessors. Time to grow up folks, and gather in some wisdom.
