This is the shocking moment a police officer was filmed striking a 14-year-old girl in the face during an arrest in Lancashire.

The teenager and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assaulting police on Monday afternoon in Accrington, after two officers had to be taken to hospital after the incident.

Yet during the arrest, a male police officer from Lancashire Police could be seen hitting the girl in the face during the struggle.

Shocking footage shows the girl being referred to as a 'young woman' despite her being only 14.

A male and female officer attempt to restrain the teenager as a crowd screams 'get off her' before the male officer hits the girl.

The crowd immediately respond with one shouting 'this man's smacking up a little girl... she was smacked... you are losing your job'.

As more police officers attend the scene, another fight breaks out around the arrest and the girl is eventually put in handcuffs.

Since being shared online, the video has left people divided, with some people saying the police officer should lose his job while others say it was a reasonable use of force.

One person said: 'Fair enough we don't now what's she's done, but you don't punch a girl in the face.'

While another said: 'Don't resist arrest, have some respect then you won't get slapped or arrested.'

A statement from Lancashire Police said: 'We're aware of a video which shows a young woman being restrained by officers in Accrington.

'Two people were arrested and two officers treated in hospital as a result of the incident. We appreciate it may cause concern - a full investigation will take place in due course.'
