Same was built and sold on the concept of a relatively inexpensive supersonic fighter and trainer jet for US Allies - and many were sold to Iran.
Its design also also allowed it to be a purely 'trainer jet', and you may recognize some of its features in the US Astronauts' personal jets - the T-38.

So I wouldn't be surprised to find a huge portion of the plane to have been reverse engineered from that aircraft, and a host of others. (All aircraft do this. A simple example is when the Dodge caravan came out with a driver's side sliding door; and ever car maker did the same one year later.)
I will of course defer to those who know more of this subject and these facts.
