I once owned a Samoyed Border Collie Cross who would accompany me on my spear fishing trips, he would swim alongside me ALL DAY, and even catch his own fish, which he always refused to share. He was totally at home in the water and could swim for hours on end, always amazing me with his stamina. He loved nothing better than to chase and catch, and eat crabs, one occassion even caught a crayfish as well. Diving under water up to two meters was also, not a problem for him.
Discussing this with the Vet one day, it was suggested that his thick coat which was coated with a type of oil closer to the body, actually gave him buoyancy, thus making his sojourns in the water less tiring.
Sorry fellas, this is not new, been around for ages.
