Civil Defense sources told state news agency Telam that rescuers found a burnt body inside a truck.
The part of the gas pipeline that exploded runs across a roadway and all the victims appeared to have been motorists on the road when the explosion occurred in the city of Pilar, 659 km northwest of the capital Buenos Aires, the daily Clarin said, adding that the accident forced closure of several roadways.
The pipeline supplied the oldest plant at the facility, dating from the 1960s, the daily said, suggesting aging infrastructure may have been the cause.
Pilar Mayor Diego Bechis said the injured had been taken to hospital, mainly with serious burns.
Pilar Fire Chief Carlos Gomez told local media that the situation was "under control", after the gas supply was cut off " to put out the flames, which at one point were 50 meters high," Telam said.
No one at the plant, the Provincial Energy Company of Cordoba, was injured, according to the sources.
