What are the odds? On December 15th 2011, the US Navy simulated the crash of one of its jet into the back bay area of Virginia Beach. Less than 4 months later, on April 6th 2012, a US Navy jet crashed into an apartment complex in the Virginia Beach area.

Coincidence? Are there any coincidences left these days? Or were they all used up on 9/11?

what if...

the crash was an actual aircraft malfunction, electrical or mechanical?... what if the crash was an actual pilot error?... what if the crash was caused by debris ingestion, possibly birds?... what if the crash was caused by maintenance error, like a loose fitting or mis-installed component?

sometimes you MUST remove your tin-foil hat and not think all is done conspiratorally... people screw up, mechanical systems fail regularly, birds fly down intakes, etc... and most, if not all, military bases do crash simulations for response effectivity

When I first heard this story...

...I thought, that COULDN"T have been an accident!

My only other familiarity with such an event was the crash that almost killed Howard Hughes on July 7, 1946, in Beverly Hills.

But planes - and jets - do go down because of real failures.

In the past 30 years, Wikipedia records a total of 20 crashes of the F-15 fighter.

F-18s, apparently, started crashing in 2006. There have been about 6 crashes or serious in-air malfunctions since that time. One was the infamous San Diego crash that killed four people.

So I suppose it could have been no more than it was reported to be. And as of last I heard, there were injuries, but no deaths.
