More than 20 residents in the Eastern Wheatbelt town of Nungarin have been forced from their homes by flash flooding.

The town has received more than 100 millimetres of rain in five hours.

The Shire of Nungarin says the heavy rain has caused damage to local infrastructure and inundated the entire road network.

Nungarin Shire's Chief Executive, Bill Fensome, says many residents had to sandbag their properties.

"Like a river that you wouldn't believe, we had to drag one of our residents out of his house, an elderly gentleman, the water pressure trying to get him out was unbelievable," he said.

Local farmer Garry Coombs says the rain is continuing to fall.

"And I went and looked in the gauge at 7pm. It hasn't let up for the last two and a half hours, it's just been constant rain," he said.

Meanwhile, residents of the remote Aboriginal community of Warburton are in recovery mode after a flash flood inundated the community.

83 millimetres of rain fell on the town yesterday flooding parts of the town to two metres.

The Bureau of Meteorology says that is more than twice the town's average rainfall for the whole month of February.

30 homes were evacuated and 60 people were forced to relocate.

Two people had to be rescued from a four-wheel drive stranded in water up to window level.

Jane Truscott witnessed the flooding at the town's small airport.

"It was at least 100 metres wide travelling down through the side of the community, it totally flooded the runway and our Qantas lounge and then all the way down the street taking out six to eight houses on one side and another six to eight houses on another street," she said.

The Chief Executive of the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku, Chris Paget, says early assessments have not shown any major damage to the airstrip which is a vital link for the remote community.

"It's looking like that airstrip has come away without any major damage, which is good, it seems to be operational," he said.

"We are just waiting for the assessment on the lighting, but all accounts are that that should be OK as well."

James Ashley from the Bureau of Meteorology says more rain is expected today.

"Through that area there are still some showers and thunderstorms to come through today," he said.

"After that it will ease off significantly. There will be some showers over the weekend but not a great deal of rainfall through the weekend and into next week."
