ST. ALBERT, Alta. - Thank goodness for women's intuition.

Shirley Dochuk, 61, just about didn't play her regular Western 649 lottery numbers for the Oct. 10 draw, but something inside her told her to go back and get the tickets.

On Friday, Dochuk was revealed to be Alberta's latest millionaire by the Western Canada Lottery Corp. in a news release.

Dochuk and her husband have played Western 649 for several years, and have always played the same numbers.

When she and her daughter checked the tickets and found the winner, Dochuk wasn't entirely convinced and took the stub to a retailer to have it double-checked.

The new millionaire recently sold her hair salon business, but had intended to continue to work for a few more years. With this windfall, however, she and her husband both plan to retire.

"I was going to slow down a bit, but now I can really slow down!" she said.

The couple said they have planned a road trip to visit family, and may buy a new vehicle and do some home renovations.

"It's just made life a little easier," said Dochuk, who has two children and two grandchildren.

Her windfall is the sixth lottery win of $1 million or more on a ticket purchased in St. Albert, as well as the fourth million-dollar-plus prize claimed in Alberta in the past month.
