Police are continuing to investigate a horrific fatal attack by two dogs on a woman in her 80s in a shocking Good Friday tragedy.

The pensioner was mauled to death in the back garden of her Black Country home yesterday (Friday) afternoon.

A man has been arrested and is continuing to be questioned by police today.

What happened in Boundary Avenue?

The woman died after two escaped dogs burst into the garden of her house in Boundary Avenue, Rowley Regis

Police rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 3.20pm on Good Friday following reports an elderly woman had been left with serious injuries after being attacked.

West Midlands Police said that, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she was confirmed dead at the scene soon afterwards.

It is understood two dogs - which did not belong to the woman - had managed to get into her garden and she was attacked.

The victim, who was in her 80s, suffered dog bite injuries although a post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.

A 43-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and death is caused. He remains in custody for questioning on Saturday morning.

Two dogs were seized and were due to undergo examination to establish their breed.

An air ambulance landed at nearby Britannia Park as medics rushed to the scene. Forensics officers and vets were also said to have been part of the emergency services' response.

What did police say?

West Midlands Police released a statement after the tragedy.

It said: "A 43-year-old local man has been detained on suspicion of being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and death is caused. He remains in custody for questioning.

"Two dogs have been seized and will undergo examination to establish their breed.
