An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale shook Iba, Zambales and Subic, Olongapo City Sunday morning.

The tremor, which occurred at 9:06 a.m., was also felt in Quezon City; Ortigas Ave., Pasig City, and Makati City, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said that the quake was tectonic in origin and was caused by slight movement of the plates, particularly the Iba fault and Manila trench.

Phivolcs said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 46 kilometers (kms) southwest of Iba, Zambales, with a shallow focal depth of .006 kms.

The temblor was felt at intensity 3 in Iba, Zambales and Subic, Olongapo City, while it was felt at intensity 2 in Quezon City; Pasig City, and Makati City.

Aftershocks were also expected, but damage from the earthquake was unlikely, Phivolcs added.
