Eurobodalla Shire Council has done a backflip on last week's controversial decision over water fluoridation.

Most councillors have now voted to have fluoride added to the shire's public water supply.

Comment: Yes, last week Eurobodalla Shire Council decision was different:

Council votes against water fluoridation

There was anger in some sections of the community last week after most councillors voted to ignore the results of a public survey and reject plans to add fluoride to the shire's water supply.

However, after a successful rescission motion put to yesterday's council meeting, Cr Chris Kowal changed his stance, allowing the controversial proposal to go ahead.

Eurobodalla Mayor Neil Mumme welcomed the decision, saying that commonsense and the will of the community had prevailed.

Fluoridation of the shire's water supply will begin when the new northern water treatment plant comes online at the end of 2009.

The southern water supply system will be fluoridated at the same time.
