Joey Chestnut won an eating contest after chowing down 103 hamburgers in 8 minutes

In a Hamburger eating contest, a man ate 103 small hamburgers in less than eight minutes. He beat the previous record of 97 hamburgers set at last year's Krystal hamburgers eating contest.

Joey Chestnut, 23, of San Jose, California won the Krystal Square Off Hamburger Eating Contest. He swallowed 103 small hamburgers (two-and-half square-inch sandwiches) in eight minutes.

Chestnut beat 12 other contestants. Kobyashi the former champion who ate 97 Krystal burgers last year didn't participate this year because of lingering jaw pain after his wisdom teeth were removed.

Brad Wahl, vice president of marketing for Krystal Co., said they never expected anyone to cross the 100 hamburger mark. They started this contest in 2004. The winner of the current contest wins $10,000.

The 29-year-old Kobayashi received chiropractic treatment before losing his hot dog eating contest in the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July to Joey Chestnut in New York.
