Of course whenever I see them I try to shoo them away, but they aren't like normal squirrels. They are aggressive, or "pushy," I might say. They don't run away when I show up with an oven mitt or the broom to make them retreat. They just cling tighter to the screen near the hole(s) they have made and give a little barking noise. I have found that the only way to make them stop gnawing and leave is to go outside and spray them with the hose. Then they leave reluctantly, barking all the while. I have had to replace several screens. When I see they have started to make a hole, I will coat it with something like Ben-Gay or some other bitter substance. This often makes them stop gnawing
at that one spot, but they soon start in at another place on the screen. The finished holes they make are about as big as an orange.
My neighbor says they want to come inside my house and make a nest. However I don't want squirrels nesting in my kitchen, but on the other hand, I don't want to hurt them. Never have I seen rude, pushy squirrels like this.
