Tiny Elytte Barbour and his petite wife, Miranda, celebrated their three-week wedding anniversary by executing a dream they'd shared: To murder someone together, city police said Friday night.

There could be other victims.

Miranda Barbour, who operated a business in which she was paid up to $850 to accompany males for "delightful conversation" - according to her husband - has a 1½-year-old child whose father is dead, Elytte Barbour said Wednesday.

When asked Friday night about the child's biological father, Sunbury police Chief Steve Mazzeo said his death may have circumstances that will lead the investigation of the Barbours to other states.

Mazzeo would not elaborate.

The Barbours moved to Selinsgrove in October from North Carolina.

Elytte Barbour, 22, of Selinsgrove, was charged Friday night with criminal homicide in the Nov. 11 stabbing and strangulation death of Troy LaFerrara, a 42-year-old Port Trevorton man who met Miranda Barbour through Craigslist and set up a meeting with her for companionship.

Miranda Barbour, 18, was charged Tuesday.

LaFerrara was stabbed 20 times and left for dead in a Sunbury alley after he jumped into Miranda Barbour's red Honda CRV after they met for the first time at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf.

Elytte hid under a blanket in the backseat of his wife's car and waited for a signal to wrap a cord around LaFerrara's neck, city police said Friday night.

After he got that signal and began to strangle LaFerrara, Miranda Barbour stabbed the victim, police said.

Elytte Barbour visited The Daily Item on Wednesday, hours after his wife's arrest, and insisted she wasn't a "cold killer" and knew nothing about what his wife did until she told him moments before surrendering to state police at Selinsgrove early Tuesday morning.

Earlier this week, she told police that she was alone when she stabbed LaFerrara because he put his hands around her neck and began to fondle her private areas.

On Friday night, Elytte Barbour told police that LaFerrara fought back as he was being strangled, and that Elytte Barbour pulled the cord tighter as Miranda Barbour continued to knife the victim.

Elytte Barbour on Wednesday told The Daily Item that he kept a 3-inch pocket knife in the console of the Honda. Miranda Barbour said she threw her weapon into the Susquehanna River at Selinsgrove within the past 10 days, police said. It was not known at deadline whether the pocket knife was used in the slaying.

Elytte Barbour was arrested Friday night and appeared before District Judge Ben Apfelbaum around 9:23 p.m.

Elytte Barbour walked into the courtroom, shrugged his shoulders and flashed a smile to reporters before his arraignment.

He is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and criminal conspiracy and possession of instruments of crime.

Elytte Barbour on Friday night told police where the stab wounds were located on LaFerrara's body, and where the Barbours decided to dump the body, police said.

LaFerrara was found the morning of Nov. 12 in an alley behind Catawissa Avenue.

The couple were married Oct. 22, Elytte Barbour said Wednesday while defending his wife.

He told police Friday night they had planned to kill before, but the plan never worked out, so they continued their search and that it all worked out when they set up the meeting with LaFerrara, police said.

"LaFerrara was just the one with whom it worked," Elytte Barbour told police.

Earlier this week, Miranda Barbour told police that after she killed LaFerrara, she drove alone to a Routes 11-15 department store in Hummels Wharf and purchased cleaning supplies to wash the blood out of her car, then returned home to pick her husband up to take him to a strip club for his 22nd birthday, police said.

Elytte Barbour told police Friday, after the relentless efforts of Sunbury police Officer Travis Bremigen, that he was actually the one to go to the store and buy the supplies, police said.

Video surveillance shows Elytte Barbour get out of his wife's car in the parking lot of the department store and walk inside that night, police said.

From there, video surveillance shows Elytte Barbour walking around the store and purchasing bleach wipes, a red towel, paper towels and a cleaning liquid, police said.

Elytte Barbour was sent to the Columbia County Prison. His wife is incarcerated at Northumberland County Prison. Both are being held without bail.
