Flood has hit a number of northeastern, lower northern and central provinces in Thailand, local media reported Thursday.

The northeastern border province of Buri Ram declared nine districts as disaster zones. The damages by flood are initially estimated at more than one million baht (about 29,400 U.S. dollars), according to the Thai News Agency.

About 1,300 hectares of farmlands and 41 roads were damaged by flooding in the province, the report said.

In the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, the water level in the Chi River has risen about six to ten centimeters per day on average, while some 1,620 hectares of paddy fields have been flooded for five days. The situation is expected to return to normal in November.

In Yasothon province also in the northeast, riverside villages have been hit by flood from the swollen Chi River. Access to some areas has been cut off, and many areas are under about one meter of water.

In northern province of Uthai Thani, local officials have distributed relief supplies to flood victims in the provincial seat. Hundreds of families moved to stay in roadside makeshift tents, provided by the local authority. Flat boats have been used to evacuate people stranded in their homes, while in Thap Than district, the floodwaters have receded. Much livestock was drowned and crops were damaged.

The overflowing Chao Phraya River that runs north to south across central Thailand, has also flooded business areas in Ayutthaya Province, some 100 kilometers from Bangkok, causing extended damage in the world cultural heritage site.

In the upper central province of Nakhon Sawan, residents of Banbangpong district moved to roadside tents and makeshift shelters along the railway tracks as their community is under two meters of floodwater.

In northern province of Phitsanulok, some villagers in the provincial seat have skin diseases and stress after one-week flood. The army will drain water from the community within this week.

Meanwhile, Koh Kred and six other sub-districts in the central Nonthaburi province have been declared disaster zone.
