Darren Wilson, along with all of the other officers who worked for Jennings Police Department, was fired three years ago after it was discovered there was a great deal of tension between white officers and black residents. According to the newspaper, the department was a "mainly white department mired in controversy and notorious for its fraught relationship with residents, especially the African American majority ... not an ideal place to learn how to police."
After the department was broken up, new officers were brought in and some of the cops who lost their jobs reapplied for them. Instead of pursuing a position in Jennings, Wilson reportedly applied for a job in Ferguson. The 28-year-old is currently under the protection of the Ferguson Police Department after a local news station reportedly broadcast the man's home address.
Although he has yet to release a statement, details about the officer have emerged since the incident, including the suggestion that he grew up in a broken home and had issues with the law when he was younger. Until the Brown shooting, Wilson reportedly had a spotless record within the Ferguson Police Department.
