Best of the Web: Mysterious energy source is 'pulsing every 20 minutes' - Object unlike anything astronomers have seen before

Magnetar
© ICRARAn artist's impression of what the object might look like if it's a magnetar. Magnetars are incredibly magnetic neutron stars, some of which sometimes produce radio emission. Known magnetars rotate every few seconds, but theoretically, "ultra-long period magnetars" could rotate much more slowly.
A team mapping radio waves in the universe has discovered something unusual that releases a giant burst of energy three times an hour, and it's unlike anything astronomers have seen before.

The team that discovered it think it could be a neutron star or a white dwarf โ€” collapsed cores of stars โ€” with an ultra-powerful magnetic field. Spinning in space, the strange object sends out a beam of radiation that crosses Earth's line of sight, and for one minute in every 20, is one of the brightest radio sources in the sky.

Astrophysicist Dr. Natasha Hurley-Walker, from the Curtin University node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, led the team that made the discovery. "This object was appearing and disappearing over a few hours during our observations," she said. "That was completely unexpected. It was kind of spooky for an astronomer because there's nothing known in the sky that does that. And it's really quite close to us โ€” about 4,000 light-years away. It's in our galactic backyard."

The object was discovered by Curtin University Honors student Tyrone O'Doherty using the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) telescope in outback Western Australia and a new technique he developed. "It's exciting that the source I identified last year has turned out to be such a peculiar object," said Mr O'Doherty, who is now studying for a Ph.D. at Curtin. "The MWA's wide field of view and extreme sensitivity are perfect for surveying the entire sky and detecting the unexpected."

Best of the Web: Freedom Convoy: Truckers angry over vaccine mandates roll toward Canada's capital in protest UPDATE: GoFundMe withholding raised funds for truckers

© ShutterstockTrucks line up to cross the U.S. border in Sarnia, Ontario, after the COVID-19 vaccine mandate took effect.
'I'm literally going to lose my truck, my house, my car, my savings,' says unvaccinated owner-operator.

Truck drivers in Canada are slow-rolling in convoys across the country to protest the COVID-19 vaccine mandate at the U.S. border, with plans to converge at the capital, Ottawa, on Saturday.

Among them will be Ontario owner-operator Brigitte Belton, who until recently regularly moved freight between the U.S. and Canada. Since Saturday, she and other drivers who haven't been vaccinated against COVID-19 have been barred from crossing the border.

Comment:

From National Post:
Truck Convoy supporters would be correct in their contention that the protest isn't attracting nearly as much official attention compared to prior protests that have been numerically much smaller, such as the pro-Wet'suwet'en blockades that dominated the national discourse in early 2020. Only on Monday did the convoy first receive acknowledgement from major party leaders. Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole dodged a question on the convoy, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau obliquely mentioned the protests while accusing Conservatives of "fear mongering" by linking trucker vaccine mandates to supply chain disruptions.

Actually, one of the only major organizations to comment on the protest has been the Canadian Trucking Alliance, who denounced it . The CTA - which previously opposed vaccine mandates on truckers - is now advising truckers to comply and "strongly disapproves" of protests to the contrary . "This regulation is not changing so, as an industry, we must adapt and comply with this mandate," wrote the group in a Saturday statement.
UPDATE: The $4.7 million raised for the truckers via GoFundMe is being withheld by the crowd-sourced funding service. From CBC:
GoFundMe has frozen access to the more than $4.7 million in funds raised by the trucker convoy now winding its way across the country toward Ottawa in a protest against vaccine mandates.

"We require that fundraisers be transparent about the flow of funds and have a clear plan for how those funds will be spent. In this case, we are in touch with the organizer to verify that information," Rachel Hollis, a spokeswoman for the crowdfunding platform, said in an email.

"Funds will be safely held until the organizer is able to provide the documentation to our team about how funds will be properly distributed."

As of Tuesday afternoon, funds were raised from 61,100 donors, according to the GoFundMe page of the "Freedom Convoy."

Tamara Lich, who is also secretary of the fledgling Western separatist Maverick Party, launched the campaign on Jan. 14. It states that the money will go toward fuel as well as food and lodgings for big-riggers taking part.

Best of the Web: From peacemaker to warmonger: Tragic downfall of Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky

Zelensky
© Ukrainian Presidency / Handout/Anadolu Agency via Getty ImagesUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visits the front-line positions of Ukrainian military in Donbass, Ukraine on December 06, 2021. The president of Ukraine came to power calling for peace, but continued his predecessor's militaristic policies.
Something truly amazing happened in Ukraine in 2019. A country traditionally split into two practically equal parts almost uniformly chose the same president, casting 73.22% of the votes for famed comedian Vladimir Zelensky of the Kvartal 95 Studio. By electing the entertainers, the Ukrainian people showed that they were tired of career politicians and, most importantly, wanted peace for the Donbass region.

His predecessor Petro Poroshenko was tied to the civil war in the eastern regions of the country, while showman Zelensky was a fresh face who dropped a few flashy lines, painted a couple of vivid pictures, and was able to convince the people that he was a peacemaker. However, to quote a Ukrainian saying, "it didn't turn out the way they thought it would." While in office, the 'kind clown' turned into a real-life warmonger who is even tougher than Poroshenko in some respects. How and when did this happen?

Best of the Web: Tens of thousands gather in Washington to call for an end to Covid mandates (UPDATE)

washington rally mandates protest
Tens of thousands of Americans marched to Washington, DC, to call for an end to COVID mandates. The Children's Health Defense is sponsoring the event and say they're expecting 20,000 people to participate in the mile-long march on Sunday.

Comment: Speaking of Rogan, here's how Vice reported on the march:
vice headline joe rogan
(To be clear, Joe Rogan had nothing to do with the march). Once you've created a bad guy (or attempted to), better use it to it's full potential!

More from the Daily Caller:
Over 30,000 People Marched To 'Defeat The Mandates' In Washington DC

Over 30,000 people took to the streets in Washington D.C. for the "Defeat the Mandates: An American Homecoming" march to protest "draconian COVID-19 requirements" Sunday, Fox News reported.
...
"You're going to hear a lot of people ... on the left say this is a big, anti-vax rally โ€” it's people coming in to deny science" said march organizer and PragerU commentator Will Witt, according to Fox News. "But this march is about the mandate, and this march is about the Draconian measures that we're seeing all across this country right now, especially in places like D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco."

Nationwide, state and federal COVID-19 vaccination mandates are coming under fire. On Friday, a Texas federal judge blocked President Joe Biden's mandate forcing all federal employees and contractors be vaccinated.

The Supreme Court also blocked Biden's private sector vaccination mandate, noting that "Although Congress has indisputably given OSHA the power to regulate occupational dangers, it has not given that agency the power to regulate public health more broadly." However, the Court ruled to reinstate the vaccination mandate for healthcare workers.
And no anti-madate protest in the US would be complete without some lefties having a meltdown and mischaracterizing the attendiees. From RT:
A small counter-protest of just a handful of people could also be seen at the event, while one woman was recorded having a meltdown over the protesters, accusing them of being "white supremacists" and supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Best of the Web: Athens, Greek islands and Turkey's Istanbul buried under several feet of snow

Athens in Snow
© AP Photo/Thanassis StavrakisThe city of Athens with the Parthenon temple atop the ancient Acropolis hill is covered with snow during a snowfall, on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022.The wave of bad weather hitting Greece is forecast to continue through Tuesday, and has seen snow falling even on some islands. Authorities have warned the public to avoid all but essential outdoor movement, and several major roads and highways are passable only with snow chains.
Athens, Greece โ€” Heavy snowfall disrupted air and road traffic Monday in the Greek capital of Athens and neighboring Turkey's largest city of Istanbul, while most of Greece, including โ€” unusually โ€” several Aegean islands, and much of Turkey were blanketed by snow.

The storm, named in Greece Elpida, or "hope," snarled traffic in both Athens and Istanbul, a metropolis of 16 million people.

Flights in and out of Istanbul Airport were suspended until 4 a.m. Tuesday (0100 GMT). Authorities worked to clear runways and a road leading to the airport, where the roof of a facility used by Turkish Airlines' cargo department collapsed from the weight of snow. No one was hurt.

Authorities in Istanbul also suspended intercity bus services and temporarily blocked travel to the city from Turkey's Thrace region. People stranded on roads abandoned vehicles to walk home or crowded subway and other public transportation stations. Schools across Turkey are closed for a winter break, but universities halted classes for two days. Public offices and shopping malls closed early to ease rush-hour congestion.

Flurries were forecast to continue over the next few days in Istanbul. The Turkish city's Disaster Coordination Center AKOM said an Icelandic low-pressure system is behind the cold front and precipitation.

In Greece, authorities warned the public to limit outdoor movements to only essential ones on Monday and Tuesday, while schools in many areas were closed. Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said more than 46,000 school classes were being held online.

Best of the Web: I'm a public school teacher. The kids aren't alright.

I am proud to be a teacher. I've worked in the Canadian public school system for the past 15 years, mostly at the high school level, teaching morals and ethics.

I don't claim to be a doctor or an expert in virology. There is a lot I don't know. But I spend my days with our youth and they tell me a lot about their lives. And I want to tell you what I'm hearing and what I'm seeing.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, when our school went fully remote, it was evident to me that the loss of human connection would be detrimental to our students' development. It also became increasingly clear that the response to the pandemic would have immense consequences for students who were already on the path to long-term disengagement, potentially altering their lives permanently.

Best of the Web: Mercola: Can the Shot Suppress Your Immune System

stephanie seneff mercola covid
© Mercola.comDr. Stephanie Seneff
In this interview, return guest Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., a senior research scientist at MIT who has been at MIT for over five decades, discusses her latest paper, "Innate Immune Suppression by SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Vaccinations. The Role of G-quadruplexes, Exosomes and MicroRNAs," co-written with Dr. Peter McCullough, along with two other authors, Dr. Greg Nigh and Dr. Anthony Kyriakopoulos.

Previously, Nigh and Seneff co-wrote an entire paper detailing the differences between the spike protein and the COVID jab spike protein. In a non-peer-reviewed research paper just this week published on the pre-print service authorea, they and their other co-authors delve deeply into the mechanisms of the COVID shots, showing how they absolutely, in no way, shape or form, are safe or effective. The shots actually suppress your innate immune system.
"I think McCullough is fantastic and I'm so happy to have him collaborate with me," Seneff says. "I really hope we will be able to find a journal that is willing to publish it. We may have to seek some kind of alternative media to get it published.

It's really incredible the amount of censorship that's going on right now. I'm in a state of shock all the time. I just keep thinking it's not going to get any worse, and it's truly going to get better, and it just seems to keep on getting worse and worse.

I don't know where the end is. It's very discouraging ... Pharma has so much money behind [them] and they've got it all set up to make sure that nothing gets past them ...

We're hoping to put it up as a preprint, but ... remarkably, they can reject it at the level of preprint as well. We're working on that angle, but it's not easy. When you're writing something this radical, they really fight hard to keep it off the web."
On January 16, 2022, the pre-print service Authorea published this paper on its web site, assigning it a DOI, thus making it official.

Best of the Web: Alberta Canada inadvertently published (and quickly deleted) health data revealing that MORE THAN HALF of vaccinated deaths have been counted as UNVACCINATED

In yet another absolute bombshell revelation the government of Alberta, Canada exposed itself this week when it accidentally published damning evidence that exposes how the public health authorities have been manipulating the Covid-19 statistics.

After seemingly realizing what it had just done, the corrupt Canadian province quickly scrambled to delete the incriminating data off their website, but, thanks to internet sleuths like Twitter user Metatron - and his substack post, we have the receipts.

Comment: They've been fudging the numbers from the very beginning of this "pandemic," but this little slip on their part really reveals just how egregious their manipulations are. And make no mistake - this isn't isolated to Alberta.

Public confidence in democratic governments has fallen amid the pandemic

A global survey has found that autocracies have become increasingly trusted, while confidence in democracies has fallen. One of the reasons given is the alleged poor management of the Covid-19 pandemic in democratic states.

In a study published this week, the Edelman Trust Barometer, a communications group that has polled thousands of people over two decades, said its most recent survey showed a concerning lack of trust in democratically elected governments.

The group, which interviewed over 36,000 respondents in 28 countries between November 1-24, found German institutions were the biggest losers, as their trust rating was down seven points on the previous year to 46.
