SOTT Focus: NewsReal: Dirty Nuke False-Flag? US Military on Stand-by to Fight Russian Troops in Event of 'Atrocity'

Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told his French counterpart in a telephone call today, Sunday 23 October, that Moscow was concerned Ukraine could use a "dirty bomb," the Russian defense ministry reported, which would lead to "further, uncontrolled escalation" in the war.

In fact, Shoigu has since gone on to call up a half-dozen world leaders with the same warning.

Coupled with increased US military presence on Ukraine's Romanian and Polish borders, and the targeting of a major dam with American HIMARS that could flood a swathe of southern Ukraine and kill thousands of civiliams, is an atrocity looming?

EU 'dancing on edge of volcano' with Ukraine - French ex-president

Sarcozy

It's high time for the EU to abandon its emotionally driven policies on Ukraine and start talking about achieving peace, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has suggested.

In an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche on Saturday, Sarkozy criticized Brussels for its involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has included sweeping sanctions on Moscow, weapons deliveries to Kiev, and calls for a military solution to the crisis. He said:
"The European Commission is primarily an administrative body. Moreover, I still haven't understood under which article of the European treaties [the body's president Ursula] von der Leyen justifies her competence in the field of arms purchases and foreign policy. The only thing the Europeans are hearing now is more and more billions of euros being spent on the purchase of weapons. More weapons, more deaths, more war.

"It's high time for serious initiatives to be taken to start talking about the future and peace."
Sarkozy, who was the president of France between 2007 and 2012, also said:
"The EU's policy regarding the conflict in Ukraine is driven by "miscalculation, exaltation, anger, superficial reactions, and because of this we're dancing at the edge of a volcano."

Israel high court greenlights signing of 'dangerous' Lebanon deal

The Israeli High Court of Justice on Sunday unanimously rejected all petitions filed against the controversial maritime border deal with Lebanon, paving the way for the signing of U.S.-mediated agreement, which has been deemed "extremely dangerous" by its opponents.

The deal may be signed as early as this week, pending the arrival of U.S. mediator, former U.S. Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Amos Hochstein.

The petitions, filed by the Lavi organization for citizens' rights and the Kohelet Policy Forum, claims that since the current government is only a caretaker one, any potential deal must first reach a Knesset vote.

Earlier this month, Israel and Lebanon announced that the two had reached a "historic agreement."

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid hailed the agreement as an
"historic achievement that will strengthen Israel's security, inject billions into Israel's economy, and ensure the stability of our northern border."

Comment: Placing the court in control of foreign policy? Disowning responsibility, to divert blame for any repercussions, is a calculated decision.

An ABC News investigative journalist disappeared six months ago. He seems to have known a lot about American aims in Ukraine

On 27 April, ABC News reporter James Meek tweeted a single word - "facts" - above another Twitter post from a retired CIA officer, who stated that the 2014-2022 Ukrainian civil war was an eight-year "lab experiment" on Russia's military "tactics, techniques, and procedures." It added that US intelligence and "unconventional warfare" experts had "learned a shit ton."

It was the last time, to date, Meek posted on the social network. In fact, it seems it was the last time he did anything in public at all, both online and in-real-life. Rolling Stone has published an investigation into the veteran journalist's vanishing act in the months since, revealing how just hours after that tweet was posted, a number of menacing vehicles blocked off roads around Meek's apartment in Arlington, Virginia, then proceeded to raid the premises.

Neighbors interviewed by the magazine recall a collection of police cruisers, official-looking cars with blacked-out windows, and even armored tactical vehicles frequently used by the FBI, which resemble tanks. Quick as a flash, their occupants exited and rushed into Meek's apartment complex, "at least 10" of them being "heavily armed."

The raid was reportedly over very quickly, and Meek apparently didn't leave the scene with the authorities. To this day, there is no indication of what if anything was seized or why it was conducted, and all records related to the case remain sealed, including the search warrant approved a day prior. While no charges have officially been filed, Meek has dropped off the face of the Earth, and his apartment has remained vacant ever since.

The Russian defense minister has shared concerns with his French counterpart about a possible Ukrainian provocation involving the use of a "dirty bomb".

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Sergey Shoigu and Sebastien Lecornu spoke by phone on Sunday, discussing "the situation in Ukraine, which is consistently veering towards further uncontrolled escalation."

Shoigu, in an apparent reference to previous media reports, voiced concerns about a "possible Ukrainian provocation" which could involve the use of a "dirty bomb."

Earlier on Sunday, RIA Novosti cited "sources in different countries including Ukraine" as saying that Kiev is preparing to detonate "a dirty bomb or a low-yield nuclear weapon" on its own territory. According to the Russian news agency, the goal would be to accuse Moscow of using weapons of mass destruction in a ploy to "launch a powerful anti-Russia campaign".

Venezuela's opposition unwilling to back interim Guaido government for 2023

Venezuela's opposition parties have warned they are likely to withdraw backing for Juan Guaido's Washington-endorsed interim government in 2023, four people familiar with the matter said, raising questions about the future of the country's overseas holdings.

Guaido has been the public face of the country's opposition since the United States and many other governments rejected President Nicolas Maduro's 2018 re-election as a sham.

But most opposition representatives visiting Washington this week told U.S. officials they would not continue backing him or anyone else as their leader for another year of interim government.

Instead, they want to focus on choosing a candidate to compete against Maduro or whoever represents the government in the next election, tentatively scheduled for late 2023 or 2024.

Comment: Guaido was more of a distraction than a 'choice'.

A Palestinian source yesterday denied Israeli reports that an Egyptian-Palestinian-Israeli agreement had been made to extract gas off the Gaza Strip, describing them as "inaccurate".

The source, who preferred not to be named, told the Anadolu news agency that consultations with Egypt on developing the field did not mention the Israeli side at all.
"We will not pay Israel to extract what belongs to us. This is unacceptable. Israel is required not to obstruct the work only."
On Monday, the Palestinian government announced the formation of a ministerial committee to follow up with the Palestinian Investment Fund on concluding an agreement with Egypt to finance and operate the Palestinian gas field off the Gaza Strip, known as the Gaza Marine Field.

Comment: Once again Israel is usurping a Palestinian asset.

Canada's DeSantis? New premiere says she'll end Alberta Health Services' partnership With World Economic Forum

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she will end the partnership her province's health authority has with the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Her remarks came during a livestream on Western Standard's "Question Period with Premier Danielle Smith" program on Oct. 21, where she said she holds the Alberta Health Services (AHS) accountable for its COVID-19 advice to the government of Alberta over the last two years, and that its ties with the WEF serve no purpose to the province.

"I believe that Alberta Health Services is the source of a lot of problems that we've had," Smith said.

"They signed some kind of partnership with the World Economic Forum right in the middle of the pandemic; we've got to address that. Why in the world do we have anything to do with the World Economic Forum? That's got to end."

Comment: Ms. Smith certainly has come out swinging. Let's hope she can follow through on her objectives. Will other western provinces be emboldened too?

The 'War of Terror' may be about to hit Europe

Europe
© Press TV
Never underestimate a wounded and decaying Empire collapsing in real time.

Imperial functionaries, even in a "diplomatic" capacity, continue to brazenly declare that their exceptionalist control over the world is mandatory.

If that's not the case, competitors may emerge and steal the limelight - monopolized by US oligarchies. That, of course, is absolute anathema.

The imperial modus operandi against geopolitical and geoeconomic competitors remains the same: avalanche of sanctions, embargos, economic blockades, protectionist measures, cancel culture, military uptick in neighboring nations, and assorted threats. But most of all, warmongering rhetoric - currently elevated to fever pitch.

The hegemon may be "transparent" at least in this domain because it still controls a massive international network of institutions, financial bodies, politicos, CEOs, propaganda agencies and the pop culture industry. Hence this supposed invulnerability breeding insolence.

Nord Stream repair time frame assessed

burst underwater pipeline

Russia's Nord Stream gas pipelines, which were damaged and made inoperable by underwater explosions in late September, can be repaired within a few months, as reported by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) citing Sten Ussing, Chief Engineer with consultant group COWI.

Ussing assessed from underwater video-footage that the pipes will not be damaged by rust for some time as there is little oxygen at a depth of 80 meters, where they are located. He noted that the fracture surfaces look "very clean and almost shiny," which suggests that "the pipe will not rust in a few weeks, as one would expect in a more oxygenated environment."

"We can expect corrosion inside the pipe to be limited as well," he added.

The engineer, however, explained that the explosion caused a pressure surge, and that could have damaged sections of the pipeline some distance from the site, adding that they can be repaired by elevating the pipes slightly above the seabed, which would allow underwater welders to remove the damaged sections and replace them with new ones.

"It is standard procedure to weld such a piece of pipe under water. It has been done many times before, and the technologies - vessels, pipes and specialists - that need to be used already exist," Ussing explained.

Comment: It's a tribute to a good design that such a massive undertaking can get a section blown out and the whole can be up in running in only a few months. The question is, does Europe have that long before winter takes hold and the population starts to freeze?
