Eyewitnesses told Sky News that up to 70 bright circular objects could be seen near Halesowen.
Stunned residents watched in disbelief, convinced they were viewing an extra-terrestrial spectacle.
Each object was encircled with lights and had lights in the middle, according to witness Steven Randall who lives in Halesowen with is wife and three children.
He said: "This was incredible and so spectacular. The lights seem to climb into the sky to the north of us, just before 8pm last night.

Last Saturday night a slightly luminous grey UFO was reported to police in the historic town of Bury St Edmunds in the United Kingdom. The UFO was seen spinning and hovering over the St Edmundsbury Cathedral by a townsman. Now it has emerged that the UFO was also seen by a staff member of the Cathedral. Sarah Friswell, the Cathedrals visitor officer, noted that the topic of the mysterious craft had come up in a staff meeting and one of the staff members confessed to also witnessing the rather clear UFO of a very 'Classical' appearance.
More interestingly the sighting was accompanied by unusual power cuts, confirmed by the Cathedral administration, that could not be explained by the local electricity provider. Many have claimed that such sightings are in fact pranks by hobbyists involving RC flying models, yet the power cut seems to somewhat disprove this theory as it is unlikely any hobbyist could pull such a feat off.
More interestingly the sighting was accompanied by unusual power cuts, confirmed by the Cathedral administration, that could not be explained by the local electricity provider. The woman, named Joyce Updike, said the abduction occurred after a UFO landed in her family's farmyard in 1959 and again in 1967 but that she had no memory of it until she went under regressive hypnosis.

The search will resume at about 8.30am in the morning for a 46-foot timber frame trawler missing off the west coast with three men on board.
They are believed to be the Irish owner of the vessel and two Polish crewmen.
They left Killybegs on Wednesday after replenishing supplies and were bound for Rossaveal in Co Galway where the owner had been fishing for some years.
Panic among the population. Some affirm that the sky was illuminated for long minutes.
Some witnesses say that there were several explosions, others assure that the sky was so illuminated as the dawn for long minutes. The only thing that is certain is that a general blackout occured in the all of the north sector of the city and provoked chaos among the community.
Telephonic calls from the neighbors to El Mercurio newspaper showed the terror caused by the incident, which happened around 11 p.m.. Some declared that there were meteorites, lightnings and comets passing nearby, other that there were ufos.

What was it that shook residents in rural Waushara County out of their sleep Wednesday morning?
Comment: That is, in essence, the old tautological argument which declares that UFOs cannot be the product of non-human intelligence, because non-human intelligence is impossible. Therefore, any alternative 'natural' explanation will always apply, regardless of witnesses and evidence. Case closed, right?
