The animal appeared to be on a rampage, even chasing panicked tourists into the sea at the beach in Karwia, northern Poland.

The carcass of a beaked whale was found on the shore in Basco, Batanes, the office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the province has reported.

The beaked whale was found by some residents at around 8 a.m. on Friday, GMA News' Unang Balita reported on Monday.

According to BFAR, the beaked whale sustained stabbed wounds in different parts of the body, mostly in the ventral region, or the abdomen area.

The bureau also noted that there is an estimated 20-25 kilograms of missing flesh in the dorsal area, or the back portion of the beaked whale.

The authorities tried to perform further examination on the carcass but was unable to do so because of the early decomposition of the dead beaked whale.

Michael Ledford walked the beach Saturday morning like he does every morning at 5 a.m. to pick up trash and take photos of the sunrise.

Recently he has been taking photos of dead fish that have washed up onto the beach.

"It's like it happened overnight," Ledford said about Saturday morning's dead fish.

The fish were all mostly small, and there were some pompano mixed in as well, he said.

The Daily News published a story earlier this week addressing the dead fish issue.

Bekah Nelson, spokeswoman for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said in that story that the agency took samples earlier in the week but did not find any blooms.

Some fish kills are the result of natural events.

Summer is the season for noctilucent clouds. For sky watchers in the United States, "noctilucent summer" has just begun. On July 14th, a bright bank of electric-blue clouds rippled over the Canadian border into the USA. Greg Johnson of Seattle, Washington, photographed the display over the Puget Sound:

Dustin Guy of Seattle saw them too. "I witnessed the most vibrant NLC display that I've seen in a number of years," he says. "They lit up the water of Lake Washington at 330 AM local time."

NLCs are Earth's highest clouds. They form at the edge of space more than 80 km above Earth's surface, when wisps of summertime water vapor wrap themselves around meteor smoke. The resulting ice crystals glow electric blue in the night sky.


Comment: Based on our research here at Sott, we suspect that our upper atmosphere is being loaded with comet dust which has a cooling effect causing ice crystals to form. The result is the appearance of noctilucent clouds and other strange atmospheric formations. An increase in the appearance of these clouds and others formations are a portent for what is to come. Woman killed by her own pit bull terrier in Detroit, Michigan

A 71-year-old southwest Detroit woman was attacked and killed by her own pit bull dog Saturday night, police said.

Authorities said Elizabeth Rivera died in the attack. She died of a crush injury to the neck, said Lloyd Jackson, a spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. He said that the manner of death was accident. An autopsy was performed today.

The incident happened about 8 p.m. at her home in the 2000 block of Ferdinand, near Vernor Highway, according to Sgt. Michael Woody of Detroit Police.

Woody said the dog, one of four in the home, bit the woman, knocking her down, and then bit her throat, severing her jugular vein. She died at the scene.

Health officials are closing Utah Lake after finding a large toxic algae bloom in the water.

The Utah Dept. of Environmental Quality said the closure is effective immediately because of the large, harmful algae bloom that may pose a serious health risk to the public and animals.

Authorities said they believe the algae covers about 90 percent of the lake.

Officials said lab results show the concentration of algal cells in the water are three times the threshold for closing a body of water.

According to Dr. Joseph Miner, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Health, "These types of algae release neurotoxins and hepatotoxins, that can affect brain, nervous system, and liver function."

These blooms can contain harmful cyanobacteria, a type of bacteria (often referred to as blue-green algae) that produces toxins that can pose risks to humans, wildlife, domestic animals and fish. Symptoms of cyanotoxin poisoning include headache, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and sometimes allergic-like reactions from skin contact.

A dramatic atmospheric phenomenon in the skies over Oxfordshire, was spotted and caught on camera by observers. Two bright spots could be seen either side of the sun creating a halo effect.

The so-called sun dog - to use its correct name - is formed by light interacting with ice crystals in the atmosphere. They are not uncommon but are rarely as bright and as visible as that seen by many people on Thursday night.

Readers didn't hesitate in sending their best pictures of the phenomenon to the Oxford Mail.

Ten-year-old Tim Stimpson sent in arguably the best of the lot captured in Eaton. He said: "We joined the Young Farmers for their cycle ride around Manor Farm in Eaton and caught a glimpse of the rainbow halo."

The luminous ring is also known as the 22 degree halo, as the two coloured patches of light appear approximately 22 degrees distant and at the same elevation above the horizon as the sun.

Suspected earth tremor in parts of Bayelsa and Rivers States, has caused palpable apprehension among residents of the affected communities in the two oil-rich states. Residents of the areas noted that the tremor caused serious cracks on the walls of their buildings though no injury was reported.

It was learnt that in some of the impacted communities such as Igbogene and Akenfa in Bayelsa as well as Akinima, Akie-Oniso (Oruama), One Man Country and Mbiama - neighbouring communities in Rivers, many people who experienced it were yet to recover from the trauma.

There were heavy vibrations that lasted for some minutes during the incident which was said to have started at about 12 midnight.

An earth tremor, Wikipedia says, is the perceptible shaking of the surface of the earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the earth's crust that creates seismic waves. It adds that a tremor could be violent enough to toss people around and destroy whole cities. Nigeria reportedly experienced tremors in 1933, 1939, 1964, 1984, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2009 in various parts of the country.

A retired Principal and landlord in Igbogene, Bayelsa State, Chief Etekpe Friday, described the experience as "frightening". "We were about to go to bed when I heard a heavy vibration. I thought it was something else so I quickly went into prayers," the 60-year-old man stated.

Residents are being asked to be careful with their water usage after a large water main break early Thursday morning.

The break happened on Bridge Street Extension between Christy Lane and Mission Avenue. The road has been closed since.

"It was like whitewater rafting, like a big dam let go. I guess it's one of the bigger ones with a lot of pressure," Christina Fogarty said.

A large pipe and one of the main arteries on Fogarty's Road flooded the entire Manchester neighborhood. One man shot footage on his cell phone of the water bubbling up from the ground just as crews were getting the water under control.

Crews are still trying to identify the cause of the break. "They don't know," said Bruce Gosselin, the field supervisor of Manchester highways. "It could be just a stress crack on a pipe, and it just decided to let go."

The roads buckled, and a sinkhole the size of a small swimming pool opened up as crews worked to repair the pipe and make the road accessible to local traffic. The process could take days.

If you were looking at the sky today and saw a ring around the sun, you were seeing a high cloud. The halo effect was caused by ice crystals reflecting or refracting the sun's light.

According to National Weather Service forecaster Ken Kleeschulte, the same halo effect can occur on the moon as well, but neither is common on Guam.
