Lightning strikes kill 3 and injure 4 in Cambodia

Three separate lightning strikes killed three people in Pursat and Siem Reap provinces yesterday afternoon, as well as one dog and one chicken, according to police.

Four others were injured in the strikes, which took place in Bakan and Kravanh districts.

A Bakan district police officer who requested anonymity said a 66-year-old man named Seung was killed by a lightning strike in a stable in Talo commune's Praha village.

"The lightning struck a man while he was in a cow stable. We could not bring him to the hospital because he was killed instantly by the lightning," the officer said.

Elsewhere, deputy police Lorng Channa reported a deadly lightning strike in Kravanh district.

Two sugarcane farm laborers were killed while five others were hurt after they were hit by lightning at Hacienda Porter, Barangay Bonifacio, Cadiz City, in Negros Occidental, past 10 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Cadiz City Vice Mayor Samson Mirhan, the farm workers were harvesting sugarcane when they noticed thick clouds in the sky.

Thinking that it would rain, the farm workers took shelter inside a hut when lightning struck, killing two persons and wounding five others.

Killed were Willy Montaya Barredo, 38, and Jovie Lubrico Humawan, 27, of nearby Hacienda Elvira also in Barangay Bonifacio.

Injured were Mark Humawan Sopuesca, 17, Cristobal Magbanua, 31, John Ray Silverio, 19, Silverio Valiente Lubrico, 43, and Jeffrey Lubrico, 23. RC

Fort McMurray wildfire expands into Saskatchewan; massive blaze now 483,084 hectares in size

© Canadian Wildland Fire Information SystemAccording to the latest fire perimeter map from the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, the Fort McMurray fire has entered Saskatchewan at two points.

About 771 hectares have burned in the province so far

The massive forest fire surrounding Fort McMurray, Alta., is now confirmed to have crossed the border into Saskatchewan.

According to Alberta fire information officer Travis Fairweather on Thursday morning, the fire is now estimated to be 483,084 hectares in size and is confirmed to have expanded east of the border.

So far, about 771 hectares have burned in Saskatchewan, he said.

The nearest village, La Loche, Sask., is more than 30 kilometres from the border, but smoke and ash has been a growing concern in the community of 2,600.

The Saskatchewan government will provide an update later this morning.

Large sinkhole cuts highway down to one lane in Brampton, Ontario

A large sinkhole reduced Queen Street in Brampton to one lane between Highway 50 and The Gore Road on Tuesday.

City crews are advising drivers to avoid the area since only one eastbound lane on Queen Street is open, while two others remain closed.

The sinkhole is approximately ten metres wide and five metres deep, according to Peel Public Works.

Crews estimate the lanes will be closed for the rest of Tuesday and won't reopen until after Wednesday morning's rush hour at the earliest.

Wrong time, wrong place: Bowhead whale from Arctic waters seen off the coast of Cornwall, UK; only second time recorded in Europe

Bowhead whale spotted off Cornish coast
Marine experts were left flabbergasted after a whale paid a visit to a Cornish beach over the weekend.

The bowhead whale, which was seven metres long, was seen in shallow wasters at Long Rock Beach near Penzance yesterday.

There were fears it would become beached but fortunately the lone adventurer turned around and made its way back out to sea.

Posting on Facebook, Marine Discovery Penzance, which provides tours in the area, said: "So, flabbergasted doesn't begin to cover it

"There have been two confirmed sightings of this species in Europe and both of them were in Cornwall.

"The previous one was in the Isles of Scilly in February 2015, so it's possible that this was the same bowhead whale, though it would be impossible to tell.

Are these mysterious mass die-offs along the Pacific coast going to decrease or what?

Now thousands of tuna crab have washed ashore on beaches in Ensenada, Mexico.

There is currently something going wrong along the American Pacific coast.

Almost every day, an catastrophic animal die-off is being reported... But nobody knows why.

Some officials name red tides and El Nino, or even natural death as origins... But there may be something more terrifying behind.

I don't know what you think about these apocalyptical signs, but animals dying are never a good omen.

After California, this latest mass die-off was reported in Ensenada, Baja California on May 14, 2016, where beaches turned completely red! Blood red.

A volcanic eruption at Guatemala's Volcan de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, has sparked the evacuation of the area surrounding the peak.

Guatemala's National Institute for Seismology and Vulcanology are reporting that an ash column reaching 5,500 meters (18,000 feet) above sea level has emerged, while "moderate" lava flow is pouring out of the mountain.

"This pyroclastic flow was accompanied by moderate rumble of the volcano [and] fallen ash is reported in the villages of El Rodeo, La Rochelle, Osuna, Panimache, Morelia, Sangre de Cristo and Yepocapa," a statement by the government agency confirmed.

The alert also recommends that people steer clear of the canyon near the volcano.

Bombero de Antigua, a disaster relief team in the area, has tweeted that at least one school has been evacuated in the municipality of Alotenango.

Is an eruption of one or more of the major volcanoes in the northwest United States imminent? In recent days, very large earthquake swarms have been reported at Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens. It is certainly not unusual for each of these volcanoes to experience earthquake swarms from time to time, but right now we are seeing this happen at all three volcanoes simultaneously, and this comes at a time when seismic activity along the Ring of Fire is on the rise all over the planet. If you have followed my work for a while, then you probably already know that I have been consistently warning that an eruption of Mt. Rainier is coming, and of course Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens are exceedingly dangerous volcanoes as well. If any one of the three were to erupt on a massive scale, it would instantly become the biggest news story of the year.

Many of my older readers remember the devastating eruption of Mt. St. Helens back in 1980 very well. This volcano is probably not as dangerous as Mt. Hood, and it is definitely not as dangerous as Mt. Rainier, but a full-blown eruption could still do an immense amount of damage to nearby communities.

Over the past couple of months, there has been a very disturbing series of earthquakes at Mt. St. Helens, and just within the last 30 days there has been a total of 103 quakes. In this article, I am going to share with you a series of maps that come from the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network via Google Earth. Three members of a rhino family have been killed by a lightning strike at an Indian national park.

A 27-year-old female, a 14-year-old calf and a baby rhino were found dead after they were struck by a bolt that 'shook the ground' for miles, officials said.

The family had been living in the reserved forest in Gorumara National Park in India's West Bengal state for more than a decade.

Uma Rani, Jalpaiguri district's forest officer, said: 'The deaths were caused by lightning. It was an unprecedented accident.

'Some other animals have also died and we are checking the forests.'

Sicily's Mount Etna is erupting again.

Europe's most active volcano has spent the last 24 hours sending huge plumes of ash and smoke hundreds of metres into the skies above Sicily.

The 3350-metre high volcano began to stir on Tuesday, with emissions from its north-east crater growing in intensity throughout the day.

"On May 17th we witnessed an increase in the amplitude of volcanic tremors and recorded intense degassing accompanied by occasional, weak emissions from the north-eastern crater," explained the Catania branch of Italy's National Vulcanology and Geophysics Institute (INGV).

Vulcanologists are classing the eruption as 'Strombolian' - a category characterized by explosive bursts of activity during which cinder, ash and smoke are ejected from the crater with great force.
