Plasma event? Bizarre angel-like atmospheric phenomenon captured over Brazil

The massive shining figure was recorded soaring in a cloudy sky, changing direction but retaining its bizarre shape. It is unclear whether the filmed object is an energy source or a remarkable light refraction.

A strange and unique atmospheric phenomenon was caught on camera in Brazil. A video uploaded by a UFO hunter who goes under the name of Disclose Screen "the Greemreefar" shows a T-shaped shining object in the cloudy sky, which roughly resembles an angel in a long robe.
"It looks like light refraction but then again it looks like some type of energy source," the cameraman says on the video. "It's even got the harmonious appearance of an angel."
The T-shaped object remains in motion for a period of time, moving from one cloud to another, changing angle and direction.

A dad has recovered the half-eaten remains of his young son after he was grabbed by a crocodile in front of his horrified family.

He searched for the 10-year-old boy overnight, before a fisherman discovered his head and leg in a nearby mangrove swamp.

The shocking attack happened off the coast of the Filipino town of Balabac — notorious for crocodiles.

Police in the Philippines said a search for the boy turned up the grisly remains on Tuesday.

He had been on board a small wooden boat with his two older siblings when the saltwater crocodile struck.

Torrential rain has caused severe flooding in southern and western areas of Taiwan. Some areas recorded around 300mm of rain in 24 hours to 13 August, 2019.

Taiwan's Central News Agency reported that one person died on 13 August after being swept away by floodwaters in Kaohsiung. Classes were cancelled and government offices closed. Almost 4,000 households in the city were left without power.

Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued extremely heavy rain advisories (more than 200mm in 24 hours) for Miaoli County, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung County early on 13 August.

Water Resources Agency (WRA) issued flood warnings for the Changhua, Yunlin, Kaohsiung and Tainan areas.

Indonesian authorities banned residents and trekkers from doing activities within 3 kilometers from the summit of Mount Merapi as the volcano located between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces spewed hot lava on Wednesday morning.

Mount Merapi spewed the hot lava as far as 950 meters, heading to upstream of Gendol River in the two provinces' border area at 04:52 Jakarta time, Spokesperson of Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Agus Wibowo said.

The hot lava emission from the Merapi crater lasted around 95 seconds was recorded to have maximum amplitude of 50 millimeters, he added.

The volcano that stands at 2,968 meters tall above the sea level has been showing significant escalation of volcanic activities in the last several days with 10 intense land tremors were recorded in various degrees on Saturday.

The Karymsky volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East emitted ash to an altitude of 5 km Wednesday, according to the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues and ash explosions of up to 6 km could occur at any time," it said in a statement, warning that it could affect low-flying aircraft.

The institute has attributed orange color code to the activity, which under the aviation color code map signifies that a volcano is exhibiting heightened unrest with an increased likelihood of eruption or that a volcanic eruption is underway with either minor ash emission or none at all.

As one of the most active volcanoes on the peninsula, the 1,486-meter-high Karymsky volcano is located 115 km north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of Kamchatka region.

The erupting volcano has entered the fourth day of the eruption on Wednesday, August 14, after activity began after 4pm local time on Sunday.

Since the eruption started, two volcanic fissures split the mountain's east flank wide open, spewing rivers of lava towards the coast.

Aerial pictures of the volcano show bright streams of molten rock slowly making their way towards the coastal highway RN2.

Amateur volcanologists and witnesses to the incredible event were photographed watching the eruption along the same road.

Even in the Arctic, microscopic particles of plastic are falling out of the sky with snow, a study has found.

The scientists said they were shocked by the sheer number of particles they found: more than 10,000 of them per litre in the Arctic.

It means that even there, people are likely to be breathing in microplastics from the air - though the health implications remain unclear.

The region is often seen as one of the world's last pristine environments.

A German-Swiss team of researchers has published the work in the journal Science Advances.

The scientists also found rubber particles and fibres in the snow.

Monster hail fell from the sky and hammered areas of the central United States on Tuesday, shattering a state record. Earlier on Tuesday before the storms developed, AccuWeather Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer warned that Colorado's state hail record could be in jeopardy given the intensity of the storms that he saw developing.

His prediction came to fruition on Tuesday afternoon when a hailstone with a maximum diameter of 4.83" fell in Bethune, Colorado, on Tuesday afternoon. The record was confirmed on Wednesday evening by the Colorado Climate Center and the National Weather Service office in Goodland, Kansas. The previous state record in Colorado was 4.5 inches.

As the Colorado Climate Center said on Twitter, photos indicate that the stone could have been even larger than recorded due to the time in between its falling and when it was put in the freezer.

The weight of the record-breaking hailstone came in at 8.5 ounces.
